The Bruins drop a couple of notches based on their loss to UO and their
fairly close game with OSU compared to USC beating UO and blowing out the
Beavers. The Ducks stay in the high teens for another week.
The Bruins have to be worried about taking on USC next Saturday. And the
Arizona game results will have a lot to do with where the Ducks should
really be ranked.

Are you trying to imply that Oregon could start the year good, maybe
even exceeding expectations, get everyone's hopes up - and then crash like
a lead balloon?
Where on earth would you ever get such a crazy idea?

Top ten may be a tad hopeful. I think after splitting with the LA
schools, #18 or 17 is about right. The loss to SC was a close, tight game
to a team playing well (true, at home, but the league is tough this year),
and beating UCLA means something, they had been running roughshod over
everyone.
They'll likely end up #21 or 22. Gotta make room for a mediocre ACC
team somewhere.

.. sitting in front of the TV watching it happen.
The first time was in 1970. UCLA had Wicks and Lowe, Oregon had Stan Love
(now Kevin's father, then the Beach Boy's first brother), Bill Drozdiak
(who's now a writer for the Washington Post), and Rusty Blair (who won the
game with clutch baseline jumpers); the "telecast" was from the campus cable
channel, PL3, which the local cable company picked up for the occasion, and
consisted of one black-and-white camera centered in the first balcony along
with another camera aimed at the scoreboard. I know it was black-and-white
because we had just got a new color TV which my mom insisted had to be
broken because the game wasnt in color.
The second time was in 1974, I watched the game at a friend's house but
can't remember much other than Ron Lee sliding across the floor, Bruce
Coldren hitting 25-footers from the baseline over and over and over again
and Walton looking like he'd just eaten a bug.
