A note on Summer league game today

Tried to watch the game on NBA.com. What a f*cking Joke. I called
the league office and told them how amateurish they look. Never had
these problems on any other site. Balcked out every few
minutes....Horrible. Out of sync with audio/video. ARGH....

Patrick O'Bryant going to the Celtics = The Next Robert Parish? Could
this come back to haunt Mullin? :)

Pietrus going to the Magic = The Next Adonal Foyle? Didn't the Magic
learn that signing ex-Warriors aren't worth the time? Though Pietrus
is younger and has a few more "good years" left in him.

Baron will be bummed in L.A.
By Carl Steward
Oakland Tribune columnist
Article Last Updated: 07/11/2008 05:42:43 PM PDT

DARTING HERE and there ...

# Maybe Baron Davis wasn't as smart as so many of us thought. He threw
away a great situation in a place where he was mostly revered and
pampered for a little more money, only slightly more security and the
foolish allure of playing in his hometown.

That plan works if you're going with the Lakers. But with the
Clippers, particularly with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette now gone,
B.D. probably just signed the death warrant on the rest of his career.
He might as well be back in New Orleans.

By next midseason, with the Clippers slogging through a 57-loss
season, Davis will be miserable, bored, sullen out of shape and
probably injured. He'll always be in Kobe Bryant's shadow in that
town, and we'll see how soon his Hollywood friends will suddenly start
misplacing his phone number. Hey, anybody can get Clips courtsides
even without knowing the star player.

Write back at you: on Webber's impact, the Maggette signing and
Davis' replacement
POSTED July 11, 1:37 PM

Mike and Dave: Sorry you (Mike) feel like the Webber-Davis article was
dumbest article you've ever read. It didn't feel like the dumbest one
I ever wrote. Maybe top 10, but not "THE DUMBEST."

Apparently, you didn't read the part at the beginning where I
acknowledged I was "stretching" with the post. I did that as a way to
bring up the very real fact that the Webber signing did have an effect
on the Warriors' 2007-08 season, and even perhaps this offseason.

That said, here are two unassailables:

=>Neither Davis nor his teammates were enthralled at the Webber
signing, particularly when Don Nelson made every attempt to shoehorn
Webber into the mix even at the expense of guys who had been there all
season.

  not bad boxscore

So, can you not foul out in a summer league game? I see one of the Sixers
players had 11 fouls.
http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/games/boxscore.jsp?gameId=1520800001

Randolph had 30 points, 8 rebounds, 6 fouls, and took 3 three pointers (not
making any of them). Watson had 5 assists, but 6 turnovers. Wright had 17
points, 4 blocks, only took 7 shots, and went 7 for 10 from the line.
Bellanelli had the most minutes but went 5 for 14, a couple of threes, a
couple of assists, etc.

Anyone see the game? My DSL is slow, so I got more buffering than action.

Don Nelson: One of greatest coaches of all time but not perfect
POSTED July 11, 7:33 AM

Don Nelson is one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time. No doubt.
No discussion necessary.

And not that I matter, but I’ve been blown away over the past two
years at how much more effective Nelson has been as a Warriors coach
than all the ones who preceded him.

The only Warriors coach of the past twelve seasons who can even be
mentioned in Nelson’s class is Rick Adelman, a perennial NBA winner
who has taken the Rockets, Kings and Blazers to the postseason.

Adelman is one of the league’s most underrated coaches _ always has
been _ but I’d still take Nelson in a one-on-one coaching matchup
there, too, if I had to.

When it comes to relating with the modern NBA player, Nelson dwarfs
the likes of Eric Musselman, P.J. Carlesimo and Dave Cowens. When
talking innovation and strategy, there’s little comparison between him
and a Brian Winters or Mike Montgomery.

Let’s be clear: Nelson is a basketball genius, a one-of-a-kind mind
who has been nothing less than a basketball pioneer.

  i wonder what Jax thinks

Anyone hear what Stephen Jackson thinks of the Baron Davis move? Seemed
like they paired well as teammates, had each other's backs, etc. Jax
playing well, and containing his more destructive side, is key to a decent
season for the team. Who is the enforcer now on this team? It's not Monta.

SFGate
Turiaf signs offer; will Lakers match?
Janny Hu, Chronicle Staff Writer
Friday, July 11, 2008
.

(07-10) 22:00 PDT -- The Warriors will introduce new forward Corey
Maggette at a basketball camp in Alameda today, and another welcoming
may not be far behind.

Golden State officially put the Lakers on the clock Thursday by
signing Ronny Turiaf, their restricted free agent forward, to an offer
sheet worth $17 million over four years.

If the Lakers do not match the offer by Thursday, Turiaf will become
the third player this summer to switch posts between Los Angeles and
Oakland.

And there's plenty of reason to believe that will happen.

The Lakers are already pushing the luxury tax threshold, so any
significant signings will result in a dollar-for-dollar penalty.

All games webcast on nba.com. You have to join "All Access," but it's free:

The first game is today at 4 pm eastern time against Philly.

I notice that the Warriors are playing in both summer leagues this time:
First five games in Las Vegas, then four games in Reno in the Rocky Mountain
Revue. Didn't they only play the Las Vegas games in the past?
