The big fella' has moved yet again, and once again to a sunny climate,
and once again into a whole nother' conference.....
Shaq became the product of the Phoenix Suns today and that poses a real
threat to the Lakers who recently accepted help from Paul Gasol.
Just when it looked like the Lakers were going to be bonifide and make a
serious run at least at the Western conference title, the Suns make a
serious move in collecting O'neil.
He'll give guard Steve Nash a big target to spot in the low post in a
half court offense. That's really a whole other dimesion that will open
up for them. Shaq doesn't need to be a speed demon up and down the
court they still have Amari, Hill and others for that.
Kobe's hopes of catching Jordan in the number of championships gathered
just took yet another turn for the worst. It was bad enough he stayed
the west where the comp is steep.
IN reality he should have came east in a trade, at least he'd been
featured in every NBA championship final and laid 50/50 odds.

He's already been in the EC for 4 years and has only been to the finals
once. There isn't room in the league for one-man teams anymore.

answer- Kobe has never played for any NBA team other than the Lakers.
We thought he was going to be traded to the bulls or knicks, just never
happened. With either of those teams he'd have made it to the NBA
finals more often than he'll ever make again in the West.
The East has been weak for some time.

You're right...I misread your comments and was talking about Shaq...not
Kobe.
I don't see the East as being weak anymore.

Here's what I see as crux of this deal.

Marion must be a locker-room cancer, or perceived as one, because I
don't see how this trade makes sense for the Suns. Last year, they
could well have won the NBA championship but for the unfortunately
suspensions following Horry body-checking Nash (if they had gotten by
the Spurs, I think they would have beaten Utah and killed the Cavs).
This year, they have the best record in the West and it doesn't appear
that Dallas or the Spurs have gotten better. Did they really think
they needed Shaq because the Lakers have upgraded?
As everyone has pointed out, Shaq will force the team to play a
significantly different style. It's not just an upgrade at a
particular position, it's changing the offense significantly
(remember, Shaq isn't happy when Shaq doesn't get the ball much). And
that's assuming Shaq is healthy enough to play significant minutes.
If he's not, the Suns become the Suns -minus Marion, which is maybe
Golden State. I don't get it.
As to the Heat, despite giving Detroit all they could handle without
Marion last night, I don't see them doing much without some more
significant re-tooling. -- Joe

Suns were simply tired of knocking at the door!
They decided to knock the door down!
Run and gun is fun during the regular season.
Many things filter into that. Opponent could be fatigued, could be
finishing up a long road trip and not care to run and battle..etc...
But the play offs, that's a whole nother' deal.
Lots of calculations, moves, off centering, counter moves etc.... Best
out of seven games I'd rather have Shaq on my team than the opposing
one.

So when the Warriors took out the Mavericks in the first round of the
playoffs last year with their run and gun style that doesn't count?

Did yah watch the game today and listen to the post interviews?
They duplicated just what I said.
Sterr Kerr is elated to have Shaq.
Several stated that the Suns have been threatening for two seasons but
not in reality close to being contenders....that is til' now!
O'neil can bring the beast when in the play offs and they get set in a
half court offense which they lacked the last two seasons.
Shaq was introduced pointing to his ring finger, yah know what that
means....NBA title doc!
Don't fret, you've been wrong many times before, you should be used to
it.
Still waiting to hear another imbecile agree with you that the East is
equal to the West. So far, ain't nobody answering that phone.
