Is this a good pick up?

Pistons Sign Free Agent Guard/Forward Jarvis Hayes
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball
Operations Joe Dumars announced today that the club has signed free
agent guard/forward Jarvis Hayes to a contract. Per team policy, terms
of the contract were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to add Jarvis Hayes to our roster," said Dumars.
"Jarvis has proven himself as a solid NBA player over the last four
seasons and we like the flexibility and depth he will bring to our
team at the small forward position."
Hayes, 26, appeared in a career-high 81 games last season with the
Washington Wizards averaging 7.2 points and 2.6 rebounds in 20.1
minutes per game. He scored in double figures 21 times a year ago,
including a career-high 29 points at New Jersey (4/7). Drafted by
Washington with the 10th pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA
Draft, Hayes was named to the 2003-04 NBA All-Rookie Second Team and
was selected to participate in the Got Milk? Rookie-Sophomore Game
during NBA All-Star 2004.

It's a quick fix...
Signing Hayes does fill one of the holes that the Pistons have had
since the departure of Corliss Williamson and that is an actual back
up small forward. So this is a good thing. Because before this
transaction it was looking like another season without a back up for
Tayshawn. Because at first there were talks of using a combination of
rookies Arron Affaflo, Sammy Mejia and the bench warmer Ronald Dupree
but that sounded much too unstable of a rock to lean on.
One of the primary goals Joe D. has mentioned was to limit the minutes
of Tayshawn(who has been logging a lot of minutes in the last few
years because of the lack of a true back up which resulted in him
burning out and losing his legs in the playoffs)...and this signing
does just that.
Jarvis Hayes is as good a back up as you can ask for at this point.
He's a decent forward... HOWEVER, I was hoping to get James Posey but
he was probably asking for a tad bit too much money and more than
likely would have used much more of the left over Mid Level
Exception(thus putting the Pistons over the salary cap and into luxury
tax).

I would think that Hayes will get Dupree's spot? Flip Murray is on the
way out, assuming the draft picks work out, but I have not seen Dupree
doing much for the pistons lately and it makes sense that if he can't
back-up Tayshawn so they got somebody else to do it then he is kind of
out of a job, neh?

Maybe I shouldn't have used the word "spot," but the Freep article I
read on-line discussing Hayes said Murray was on his way out. Which I
still think is too bad.--Joe

So much man power,,, so much man power...
Yet if we don't free ourselves of the services of Saunders, and place
Laimbeer in the stead what good is it.....
Maxiell could have easily backed up Prince and offered some fierce
mismatches for opponents.
Amir Johnson would have been another great back up for Prince.
Fuckin' Flip Saunders never did get successful rotation going...nor will
here this year!

Maybe Terry Porter and the rest of the staff will step in and stop
allowing Saunders to sink... Doubt it. Porter wants Saunder's job.
But Laimbeer? We ALREADY led the league in technicals. Let's not give
the refs another reason to not like us.
Besides, I think Laimbeer is content with being the coach of a
potential WNBA dynasty.
