Sporting News writer: Count Webber out for Pistons
September 8, 2007
Sean Deveney of the Sporting News reports that Chris Webber is "out of
the Pistons' plans."
Deveney wrote on his Sporting News blog that the Pistons have made a
commitment to keep minutes open for some of their young big men,
including Jason Maxiell and Amir Johnson.

He lists Dallas and Phoenix as possible locations for Webber.
Webber averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in 43 games with Detroit
last season.

Frankly, I'm disappointed. Yes, Webber disappeared in most of the
playoffs. No, he can't play defense. But I still think he could
contribute something to a team that has no legit starting center.--Joe

When Webber first came here the offense immediately filtered through him
which led to the dart and dagger like passes. That allowed Rip, Billups
and Prince to get shots 6 feet closer to the hoop rather than launch
long errant heaves with poor percentages.
In the playoffs Flip Saunders went away from that and Chris seldom got
any touches. Webb couldn't contribute nor understand the reasoning
behind it. Thus, his silence and bewilderment.
Webb leaving Detroit is best for him. Flip and previous Piston coaches
have killed carreers by not utilzing a bench.
Phoenix really isn't a good fit other than reuniting with Jalen Rose.
Neither of the two fit well in the run and gun offense that the suns
use. A better fit for both would be either Orlando or Cleveland. LOL
wouldn't that be a nightmare.....

This is actually correct.

Broken clock, twice a day and so on. Jalen Rose isn't with Phoenix
anymore.

And why did Flip go away from Webber? Because he turned it over or
was double teamed. And when he did get it he didn't do anything with
it. Take the blinders off. Except for the Orlando series, Webber
stunk it up.

Webber might, and that's a big might, hook up with another team, but
he won't start and might be a third option.

Well, in Washington, Doug did a pretty good job on Courtney Alexander.

(Note: I realize this is morphing into a discussion of Collins, but in
mid-September, there's damn little else to talk about.)
