Ugly, ugly game, where we saw the bad Hamilton emerge in the place of the
good Hamilton who's been playing the last few games. He's not the only one
to blame, of course. Billups stood up and took responsibility for Prince's
bad shot at the end of the game when Billups got stuck with the shot clock
running out. On the other hand, he did make the tough shot with negative
time....
Maybe in this world of internet tubes and pipes it's time for the refs to
keep time. I doubt it will lead to any more accuracy, but it will at least
change the conspiracy theories from home cooking to league crookedness.
At any rate, Orlando again dug themselves into a deep hole with their
turnovers, but they played a lot smarter in setting up their offense and
this time got a lot of 3 pointers. On the other hand, Detroit didn't panic
while the rain was falling and avoided one of the collapses that killed
them against the Sixers. They need to do a better job blocking out Howard
(not that it's easy) and they need to get more and quicker cuts by players
without the ball on offense, but they did a great job protecting the ball
and mostly took good shots.

They can be a bit quicker defending, but if the Magic shoot as many 3s as
they did last night, I like the Pistons chances for the series. Orlando
may shoot an even better percentage one night, but they'll have at least
two where they do worse.

They're not doing a great job keeping him away from the basket on
offensive rebounds, but then it's a very tough job. All in all he's not
killing them, and that's good news.

The refs do start the clock. The 3 refs on the floor push a button on a
little computer pack on their belts to start the clock and the signal
received first actually triggers it. The time keeper also manually starts
the clock just in case the electronic ones fail. So there are 4 people.
The computer pack also has a mic that is set to the whistle frequency and a
signal is sent that stops the clock automatically when any of the 3 refs
blow their whistle.
As for home cooking in the playoffs even the timekeeper because of other
duties is from a neutral team.
It was the TWolves timekeeper yesterday.

DH had a pretty good game (expect for TO's), 3 pt shooting was pretty
good, FT shooting was pretty good, turnovers, turnovers, turnovers and
more turnovers.....they cannot KEEP turning the ball over.
19 TO's is ridiculous! Especially when some of the TO's are unforced.
I mentioned earlier, if the Magic didn't make adjustments in ALL of
these areas, your team will enjoy a 4 gm sweep.
Hopefully the Magic will stop throwing the ball into the stands.
