  D'Antoni Gone

I don't mind particularly not getting D'Antoni - and I'll admit that this is
going to make me sound like Jay Mariotti - but what I DO mind is another
failure of Paxson / Reinsdorf to get what they originally were going after.

Except for Ben Wallace - Paxson's only "success" in terms of going after
someone and getting them - our GM just can't pull the trigger - Gasol,
Garnett, D'Antoni (I won't throw Bryant in their - he was never coming in the
first place) - it looks like Paxson waffles and waffles and wants to keep
investigating and isn't willing to take the next step.

For the first time, I'm turning to the negative camp on the issue of Paxson
as GM.

Again, it's not because D'Antoni was the answer - I wasn't particularly
convinced about that - but what is the plan? If Paxson thought D'Antoni was
the answer, he and Reinsdorf should have just gotten him.

  Is He Worth It?

I'm not sure I get all of the hype about D'Antoni - where are the results?

Now, I don't care about how much the Bulls have to spend to improve, but:

Nash, Stoudemire, Marion (then O'Neil), Bell, Diaw - couldn't get past the
Spurs, no shame in that, but then why is D'A considered the miracle worker
worth $5MM-$6MM per year?

The answer to not getting past the Spurs is probably - they didn't play
defense - which is D'Antoni's preference.

Especially in NY and Chicago, where historically defense is king. One
comment I saw said the Bulls are looking to regain the offensive power that
they had during the Jordan years - but (a) that power was based on Jordan,
not a running game, and (b) they were also at the top in defense in each
championship season.

Maybe Thibedeaux (sp?) is a better choice.
