A qoute from today's column:
"Profiling of any kind in any area of life is always a risky business, and
sometimes a dangerous one. No one is saying that Roger Clemens is guilty
just because he fits the performance-enhancing profile. But even Clemens
himself has to understand why he's in the conversation now, and isn't
leaving it anytime soon."
I guess he is part of the conversation now that Lupica says so?
How did this guy ever get a job?

Well, first, he wasn't "released from his first club." His contract
was up. The Red Sox made a generous offer, but got outbid by the Blue
Jays.
Second, it's true that Clemens had a couple of years (1993 and 1995)
towards the end of his Red Sox career that were down years (for him).
But the stat often cited, his 40-39 W-L record over his last four years
there, vastly understates his performance. He led the league in ERA+
in 1994 and was second in K/9, and he was 4th in the league in ERA+ in
1996 while leading the league in K/9.
In 1996, his last year there, he struck out the 2nd most hitters in any
season in his career to that point, and his K/9 rate matched that. He
threw 242 innings as well. I fail to see what was wrong with his
performance in his last year in Boston.

Clemens was never "traded" from Boston, and his body type had already
changed (I'm not suggesting it was due to steroids) before he left
Boston. I remember reading several articles attacking him for being
fat.

That only applies to the legal system; we're free to form our own
conclusions about someone's "guilt" or "innocence." Would seem silly
to conclude that Clemens used steroids, given there is next to no
evidence to support that conclusion.
