I had speculated earlier this week about where the Tigers might find a
replacement for Willis. Jeff Bonine was one of the names I raised and
thought with his high ERA and Whip was not going to be the one. Well
he is pitching against the Dodgers on Sunday after being called up to
replace Willis.
He is 24-7 over the past two years but all of that is at AAA and AA
ball. He doesn't have an overpowering fastball but does induce a lot
of ground balls. Sounds somewhat like Kenny Rogers. If he can just
keep the team in the game through 6 innings, he'll be a vast
improvement over Willis.
