I said (about three weeks ago) that the Tigers needed to be somewhere "in
the middle of the pack" by early May--assuming that position would put them
3-to-5 games out of 1st. Well...they're sorta in last place now,
BUT.....they're only 3.5 out going into tonight's game (which, incidentally,
ain't looking real good for a W at the moment, being down 4-0).

Up to this point in the season, granted, the pitching has been less than
stellar, but no real surprise there. At least not for me. Especially minus
Rodney and Zumaya. However--the other facets of the game--hitting
(especially with runners on base) and defense--have been VERY average (dare
I say LESS than average) and those two factors translate into VERY
DISAPPOINTING. At least so far. I can't JUST blame the pitching for this
quagmire we're in.

And so, sports fans (and Scott Smith, too), we need some improvement across
the board as a team if we're gonna hang around the top of the AL Central in
August/September.
