  Another trade with Texas...

Author: DrCrawdad
Date: Jan 13, 2007 04:59

The Sox traded catcher Chris Stewart for Texas 22 yr old right-hander
John Lujan.

Lujan was a 15th round draft pick for the Rangers in the 2004 draft.
Lujan went 1-4 with a 5.74 ERA, four saves and 58 strikeouts in 38
relief appearances with Class A Bakersfield last season. At 6-1, 200
pounds, Lujan is 7-9 with a 3.67 ERA, nine saves and 157 strikeouts in
83 appearances (six starts) over three minor-league seasons in the
Rangers organization.

Stewart, 25, spent the majority of the '06 season with Class AAA
Charlotte, hitting .265 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 89 games. He
was called up to the Sox last season and appeared in six games, going
0-for-8.

Apparently Stewart's days were numbered after the Sox signed veteran
catcher Toby Hall.

KW has made his mistakes trading for pitchers (see Todd Ritchie). And
the Ritchie trade was bad, even though neither Kip Wells nor Josh Fogg
has done all that much. The point being on that trade though is that
KW should have got something much better than Ritchie.

I find all the comments about this McCarthy trade interesting. Let's
see if in a year or two if a certain Cubbie troll posts here twisting
the comments Sox fans have made here about McCarthy, as the troll did
about Sox fans comments about Wells.

I agree about McCarthy except for the stretch at the tail end of 05 when he
was put in the rotation, shutdown Cleveland and stopped a slide the for all
appearances that looked like Cleveland would steamroll us to a wildcard slot
at best. His reputation had been living off that success probably far too
long. Hell he didn't even make the 05 playoff roster, and if he would have
we drop Hernandez, there is no way he could have done what El Duque did to
Boston. It's hard for me not to trust KW and his staff when it comes to
judging pitching.

FWIW, Steve Stone on the SCORE yesterday...

Stone said that one reason he believes the Sox traded Brandon was
because he never truly developed his fastball with any movement, it was
still the same fastball that if he didn't have enough velocity with it
it was gonna be hit out of the ballpark.

Stone also said that this is a pretty good trade for the White Sox and
that people are judging it too early, Danks should be a very good
middle of the rotation guy probably a number 3 who's fastball's
comparable to Thornton's in speed just a little slower, and has a
really good slider.

Stone also stated that Masset is going to be one of the premier set up
men in the majors.
