Impeachment is the Only Option!
by Milt Shook
There is something I don't understand about the current crop of
Democrats in Congress. Why are they so reticent to discuss
impeachment? And honestly, I think we're way past the point where
discussion of impeachment would be useful. It's time someone put forth
serious articles of impeachment against George W. Bush and Dick
Cheney, and brought them to a vote.
Under normal circumstances, their reticence would make some sense,
because impeachment trials reduce the effectiveness of the Senate for
the time of the trial. But at this point, does it matter? Senate
Republicans have made it crystal clear that they will refuse to allow
anything important through to the floor for a vote, anyway; if the
Senate is going to be relatively ineffective for a while, why not put
the time to good use? Let's use the opportunity to demonstrate just
WHY the Founding Fathers put impeachment into the Constitution six
times.

There are not enough people in Congress who will vote to remove them
from office. The Democrats only have a slim majority.

Because they have no case. If they claimed Bush lied about Iraq they do
not want to endure day after day after day of quotes being read back to
them of all of them saying the exact same things as Bush. People might
realize they are full of shit (those who already don't).

Democrats know that impeachment would unit the GOP and that's the last
thing they want so they're leaving impeachment off the table. The
constitution demand impeachment but impeachment would hurt the
Democratic Party.
Bush lied about a threat to our national security because his war was
always about politics. Democrats refuse to protect the constitution
from its enemies (the Bush White) for the same reason - it's about
politics.
Bush and the Dems are shameless in their disregard of their oaths of
office. History will damn both.

No, having a case or not is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what kind
of case you might have when you don't have the votes.

Your suspicion is wrong. Senate races aren't very labile. Senators
know that they are unlikely to lose their seats for anything anyone
else did. The biggest threat to remaining a senator is pissing off
your own party.
