What is this, synchronized GOP drunk driving?
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/top10/335
Vito Fosella and Mike Krusee arrest booze
Maybe Paul Broun should stop hassling soldiers and turn his attention
to what seems to be a growing problem among GOP lawmakers. First,
according to the Houston Chronicle:
A state lawmaker who helped pave the way for major toll road projects
is facing drunken driving charges.
Rep. Mike Krusee of Round Rock, the Republican chairman of the House
Transportation Committee, was charged with first offense driving while
intoxicated late Wednesday.
Meanwhile, that very same night...
Rep. Vito J. Fossella (R-N.Y.) was arrested overnight in Alexandria
and charged with driving while intoxicated, court records showed
today.
Fossella is scheduled to appear in Alexandria General District Court
on May 12 for an advisement hearing, the records said.
Expect to see a lot more of these stories as the GOP drinks itself
into oblivion before this November's coming electoral apocalypse.

Soldier suicides could trump war tolls: US health official
AFP

Suicides and "psychological mortality" among US soldiers who served in
Iraq and Afghanistan could exceed battlefield deaths if their mental
scars are left untreated, the head of the US Institute of Mental
Health warned Monday.
Of the 1.6 million US soldiers who have been deployed in Iraq and
Afghanistan, 18-20 percent -- or around 300,000 -- show symptoms of
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression or both, said Thomas
Insel, head of the National Institute of Mental Health.
An estimated 70 percent of those at-risk soldiers do not seek help
from the Department of Defense or the Veterans Administration, he told
a news conference launching the American Psychiatric Association's
161st annual meeting here.

Brazilian football striker Ronaldo fears his reputation has been
ruined forever after his "shameful" run-in with transvestites in Rio
de Janeiro last week.
"I've done something really stupid in my personal life," the AC Milan
player said today.
"We are all subject to making mistakes and I made a mistake in looking
for this. I did not at any moment know they were tranvestites," the
31-year-old added in his first public appearance since the incident.
"I cried a lot afterwards. I was incredibly ashamed."
Police said Ronaldo, who is recovering from a knee injury, went to a
motel in Rio's upmarket Barra da Tijuca district with three call girls
only to find out they were transvestites.
The police have said they are considering charging one of the
transvestites with extortion and stealing Ronaldo's driving licence.
Ronaldo admitted the incident had done irreparable damage to his
reputation.
"This was the worst decision of my personal life," he said.

At a dinner party in Los Angeles not long after the 2000 election, I
was talking to a man and his wife, both prominent Republicans. The
conversation soon turned to the new president. "I didn't vote for
George Bush" the man confessed. "I didn't either," his wife added.
Their names: John and Cindy McCain (Cindy told me she had cast a
write-in vote for her husband).

[Zeppnote: this raises an interesting question: if, as seems likely,
Obama is the nominee, will Clinton be forced to choose between his

BEECH GROVE, Ind. For anyone who has observed Bill Clinton over the
past 20 years witnessed his intuitive command of his audiences, his
keen ability to frame an issue, the heads nodding in agreement whether
he is speaking to a gymnasium crammed with voters or a newspaper
editorial board his performance this year on his wifes behalf has
been startling.

Of course I do. I also remember the Swift Boat ads. I am old enough to
remember the nuclear ad that Johnson ran against Goldwater. I remember when
Johnson Communications director was asked about that ad, his answer was a
brief. "politics is a bloodsport". As Hilary Clinton recently said, if you ...

CCTV boom has failed to slash crime, say police
* Owen Bowcott
* The Guardian,
* Tuesday May 6 2008
Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK has
failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent
on the new technology, a senior police officer piloting a new database
has warned. Only 3%% of street robberies in London were solved using
CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has more security cameras
than any other country in Europe.
The warning comes from the head of the Visual Images, Identifications
and Detections Office (Viido) at New Scotland Yard as the force
launches a series of initiatives to try to boost conviction rates
using CCTV evidence. They include:
· A new database of images which is expected to use technology
developed by the sports advertising industry to track and identify
offenders.

Because it is an important story. It goes to one of the answers to a
question we all should want the answer to. That is what kind of President
will that person be. The Obama/pastor relationship should raise some
serious questions for anyone who wants to make the best decision they can,
about who to vote for. First, everyone who runs for that office, should
know before hand, that their opponent is going to dig up whatever dirt they
can about their candidacy. A smart political operation, anticipates that, ...

Not very likely if it gets us to listen to their news operation.
