CIA 'preparing public for Iran war'
Thu, 01 May 2008
The CIA accuses Iran of 'facilitating the killing' of US troops in Iraq in
what is seen as another attempt to prepare the public for war.
In a Wednesday lecture at the Kansas State University, CIA Director Michael
Hayden claimed that slaying US military forces has become the political
strategy of Iran's highest governmental officials.
"It is my opinion, it is the policy of the Iranian government, approved to
highest level of that government, to facilitate the killing of Americans in
Iraq," maintained Hayden, just a day after the US steamed a second American
aircraft carrier into the Persian Gulf.
"Just make sure there's clarity on that," the CIA director continued.
His comments come at a time when a recent CBS report indicates that the US
Defense Department had ordered military commanders to develop new war plans
against Tehran, a claim echoed by top American analysts.
"I believe George Bush and Dick Cheney plan to take care of Iran before they
leave office," former CIA analyst Ray McGovern said in an interview
published in the Charleston Gazette on Wednesday.

Gates says U.S. could eye expanded Afghanistan role
Fri May 2, 2008 7:15pm EDT
By David Morgan
TEXARKANA, Texas (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said
on Friday the United States could consider taking over NATO's command
in southern Afghanistan, where some NATO allies have been reluctant to
provide combat forces.
But Gates said the Pentagon would consult closely with NATO allies,
particularly those countries with combat forces in the southern
region, before making any decision to alter its military role in the
country.
Southern Afghanistan, which has seen the worst of a rising tide of
Taliban violence, is now under NATO command. Britain, Canada, the
Netherlands and Australia all have forces in the region.

Treasury Outlines Toothless Hedge Fund Rules
By Kevin G. Hall
McClatchy Newspapers
Tuesday 15 April 2008
Washington - With an eye toward shoring up shaky financial markets, Treasury Department
officials unveiled a plan Tuesday to provide greater transparency and management of risk in
hedge funds.
However, the Bush administration's "best practices" proposal is voluntary, and less than
two dozen of the more than 8,000 registered hedge funds signed onto the plan.
Hedge funds are large pools of investment capital owned by the wealthy. They are largely
unregulated.
The plan, presented by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, doesn't introduce new regulation.
It depends instead on self-policing and good behavior by hedge fund managers - two qualities
missing in action in recent years as Wall Street excesses have led to what former Federal
Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan recently called the worst global financial crisis since World
War II.
A former CEO of investment bank Goldman Sachs & Co., Paulson didn't rule out the
possibility of future regulation.

What brain-dead, stupid morons (read: leftists) fail to understand is
that Conservative operatives were all too willing to let this crazyman
fade into the background... until a few weeks b4 the general
elections.
The fact that this incredibly stupid moron (Jerry Wright) decided to
spout his madness in April (instead of October) was a blessing-in-
disguise for Sen. Obama.
But... how much you wanna bet that more is being withheld about
Obama... until after he gets the nomination?
Fun
