Alaska first state to hit $4 a gallon gasoline: AAA
By Bernard Woodall
2 hours, 16 minutes ago
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Alaska hit a milestone on Wednesday that could
be a sign of things to come around the United States this summer -- it
became the first state where the average price for regular gasoline
reached $4 per gallon.

"It wasn't totally unexpected," said Geoff Sundstrom, spokesman for
the travel and auto group AAA which issues a daily gasoline price
report.
"Oil prices recently brushed against $127 per barrel so certainly...

Law tracks crimes of foster parents

HAMILTON — Liz Carroll's murder conviction will stand, and state
lawmakers hope new legislation prevents other foster parents from taking
the lives of those they're meant to protect.
Gov. Ted Strickland signed a bill into law Wednesday, May 14, aimed at
protecting foster children by tracking the crimes of foster parents.
This came a week after the Ohio Supreme Court refused to hear Carroll's
appeal on charges of killing 3-year-old Middletown foster child Marcus
Fiesel by leaving the toddler bound in a closet while taking a weekend trip.
The bill, sponsored by Ohio Sen. Tim Niehaus, R-New Richmond,
establishes a database to notify state and county agencies immediately
if a foster parent is arrested for a crime that would preclude him or
her from being a foster parent.

DCF employee facing New Hampshire sex charge
http://www.boston.com/news/local/vermont/articles/2008/05/14/dcf_employee_facing.../
May 14, 2008
WATERBURY, Vt.—A state Department of Children and Family Services worker
has been charged with exposing himself in a New Hampshire park,
officials said.
Duane Fortier, 55, of West Hartford, was among five men arrested May 7
and May 8 by plainclothes officers after the men allegedly approached
them near the Boston Lot hiking trails and made suggestive remarks and
obscene gestures, according to police in Lebanon, N.H.
He was charged with indecent exposure and lewdness.
Fortier works in the Department of Children and Family Services' office
in Hartford, where he reviews files to ensure people receive the
appropriate benefits. He does not have contact with the public,
according to Stephen Dale, commissioner for the department.
Dale said Wednesday officials were waiting to learn the details of the
allegations against Fortier.
"There's a whole protocol that we follow whenever there are allegations
against" an employee, Dale said.

Voting Rights Are Too Important to Leave to the States
By Adam Cohen
The New York Times
Friday 02 May 2008
It would be hard for Florida to surpass its disastrous performance
in the 2000 election, but give the Sunshine State credit for trying.
Its latest assault on democracy: a law threatening volunteer groups
with crippling fines if they make small mistakes in registering
voters. The law seems clearly aimed at keeping new voters - especially
minorities and the poor - off the rolls. And it is working. The League
of Women Voters, which has registered Florida voters since 1939, has
called off its registration drive this year.

Republican Election Losses Stir Fall Fears

WASHINGTON — The Republican defeat in a special Congressional contest
in Mississippi sent waves of apprehension across an already troubled
party Wednesday, with some senior Republicans urging Congressional
candidates to distance themselves from President Bush to head off what
could be heavy losses in the fall.
The victory by Travis Childers, a conservative Democrat elected in a
once-steadfast Republican district on Tuesday, was the third defeat of
a Republican in a special Congressional race this year. In addition to
foreshadowing more losses for the party in November, the outcome
appeared to call into question the belief that Senator Barack Obama of
Illinois could be a heavy liability for his partyÂ’s down-ticket
candidates in conservative regions.

Cindy McCain's late father and his brother appear in the story about the
murder of an Arizona Republic reporter who was covering the story about an
anti-abortion group. More about her we don't know. Her father's criminal
history is rather public in AZ, but the MSM has paid it no attention.
She also was a drug addict, who stole drugs from one of the charities she
was supporting. The drugs were supposed to go to poor people. She has talked
openly about this though. She never saw any jail time.

who had just had his appointment to the state's racing...

McCain's Wife Sells Off Millions That Include Sudan-Related Investments
WASHINGTON - Cindy McCain, whose husband has been a critic of the violence
in Sudan, sold off more than $2 million in mutual funds whose holdings
include companies that do business in the African nation.
The sale on Wednesday came after The Associated Press questioned the
investments in light of calls by John McCain, the likely Republican
presidential nominee, for international financial sanctions against the
Sudanese leadership.
The funds have holdings in Oil & Natural Gas Corp., an India-based company
that does business in Sudan. The American Funds Capital World Growth &
Income Fund also has holdings in Petrochina, a Chinese government-owned oil
company with vast investments in Sudan.

McCain.
It's like a reptile farm in DC lately.
Cindy beats them all in total weirdness. I have yet to see a photo of her
not looking like she could instanly snag a fly with her tongue at 3 feet.

Despite the rise of Sen. Barack Obama, black men remain in the bull’s-
eye of governmental repression and police brutality. The government is
currently re-trying six black men who have already faced two hung
juries in a case accusing them of planning to blow up both the Sears
Tower in Chicago and the Miami FBI headquarters.

Remarkable Nonsense about the Holocaust
Because the Holocaust has become in many ways a secular religion -- even for
those who are not Jewish -- one is not permitted to say anything that can in
any way be construed as less than fawning about the plight of the Jews in
Europe. Likewise, one is permitted to say just about anything that supports
the popular view of the Holocaust, no matter how erroneous or wrong-headed.
Here are some passages that contain remarkable nonsense about the Holocaust.
