Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi is an Islamofascist. He is also an enemy of
the West. Such statements are not idle jibes. Qaradawi is the
"spiritual leader" of the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization whose
previous luminaries included Amin al-Husseini (1895 - 1974), the Mufti
of Jerusalem.
Husseini organized fatal attacks upon Jews while Mufti, during the
time of Britain's Palestinian Mandate. Husseini went to Nazi Germany
where he met Hitler and became involved with Adolph Eichmann. Husseini
was employed to recruit Muslims to join the 13th division of Himmler's
Waffen SS. He also encouraged Eichmann to ignore a "prisoner exchange"
of Polish prisoners and Jewish children. As a result, thousands of
Jewish children were sent to their deaths at Theresienstadt
concentration camp.

Here's how you can save yourself and your company a LOT of money, instead
of wasting it on the Microsoft Office suite.

SOTU 2008
...donÂ’t let the door hit you on the ass

ItÂ’s the last State of the Union address Putsch will ever give.
See? You feel better already.
If you missed it, well, donÂ’t worry. Most SOTUs tend to be light on
substance to begin with, and when given by this brittle little
insubstantial failed president, such a speech tends to evanesce into
ghost turds and peyote promises.
The Republicans in Congress were dutiful, storming to their feet in
wild applause every time Putsch mentioned cutting taxes or fighting
terrorists, but they didnÂ’t look too happy doing it. Most wore the
kinds of fixed, glassy smiles that one associates with 1850
daguerreotypes. Probably for much the same reason: even a politician
can only hold that rictus for so long.

WASHINGTON - President Bush, standing before Congress one last time, urged
the nation Monday night to persevere against gnawing fears of recession and
stay patient with the long, grinding war in Iraq. He pressed Congress to
quickly pass a plan to rescue the economy.
"We can all see that growth is slowing," Bush said in a blunt acknowledgment
of rising food and gas prices, increasing unemployment and turmoil in the
housing and financial markets.
He cautioned against accelerating U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq, saying
that would jeopardize progress achieved over the past year. He said plans
already are set for 20,000 troops to come home.
It was his final State of the Union address and he faced a hostile,
Democratic-led Congress eager for the end of his term next January. He
scolded lawmakers for slipping costly, special-interest projects into bills
and promised to use his veto pen to cut them.
With his approval rating near its all-time low, Bush lacked the political
clout to push bold ideas and he didn't try. He called on lawmakers to
urgently approve a $150 billion plan _ worked out with House leaders _ to
avoid or soften any recession through tax rebates for families and
incentives for businesses to invest in new plants and equipment.

Stock Market: Now A Lagging Indicator
The behavior of the stock market has always been considered a leading
economic indicator. In fact, the performance of the S&P 500 index is
used by the Conference Board in calculating the official US Leading
Indicators. Nevertheless, could it be that share prices are now
lagging indicators? Let's look at the data.
The chart below (click to enlarge) plots the annual percent change in
S&P 500 (blue line) vs. the performance of the "real" economy: annual
changes in retail and restaurant sales (red), new orders for
manufactured goods (pink), housing starts (green) and private
employment (olive).
Notice how the broad economy started weakening in 2006 but stocks kept
moving higher, even accelerating their ascent, until recently.
Clearly, stocks were lagging the real economy.
In my opinion, the following are the main reasons for this unusual
behavior:
1. Stock valuations remained high because financial engineering
spread out credit risk via derivatives (CDOs, CLOs, CDSs, SIVs...

John Cole noted this morning, “I honestly cannot recall a State of the
Union address which has received less hype.” Neither can I. Usually,
even for lame-duck presidents, the SOTU is a pretty significant moment
of political theater. I remember the last addresses for Reagan and
Clinton drew quite a bit of attention, but going into tonightÂ’s
speech, no one, on either side, seems to care at all. I frequently get
the sense the country is asking Bush, almost in unison, “You’re still
here?”
