China's economy grew 11.4 percent in 2007 from a year earlier, the
fastest pace in 13 years, to 24.7 trillion yuan ($3.4 trillion). The
nation accounted for 17 percent of global growth, the same as the
U.S., according to United Nations estimates.
The government has the means to stimulate the economy if necessary.
Tax revenue soared 31 percent last year to 4.94 trillion yuan and
rising consumption is another shield. Retail sales climbed 20.2
percent in December from a year earlier.
``China will still be well insulated at home in a U.S. recession,''
said Jonathan Anderson, global emerging markets economist at UBS AG in
Hong Kong. He forecasts China's economy will grow 10 percent in 2008
and 9.5 percent in 2009 as domestic demand softens the effect of any
export slowdown.

Advertisers Drop Savage Over Hateful Remarks, USO Hints At Law Suit
At least four major firms have pulled advertising from Michael Savage's
nationally syndicated radio show following a campaign highlighting his
inflammatory rhetoric. One other company, Geico insurance, is expected to
follow suit.
The campaign, launched recently by Brave New Films, generated thousands of
calls urging advertisers on the Savage Nation show to sever financial ties
to the widely popular (and frequently offensive) talk host.
In less than a week, four agreed to pull their ads from the show, including
Union Bank of California (whose representative says they were advertisers on
the Savage show by mistake and were glad to be taken off), Intuit, Chattem,
ITT Technical Institute.
"We are thrilled at the amazing response of the true patriots all over the
blogsphere who responded to our NOSAVAGE campaign," Robert Greenwald, head
of the film company, said in a statement. "People have called and emailed
and the responsible sponsors have responded by pulling their ads and asking
that their ads not be on this racist and hateful show."

I heard Obama, on the evening news, say it himself that, Bill Clinton
and his "fairytale" statement (about Iraq) "was racist."
Yet Obama claims the Clintons are making "racism" an issue.
Keep it up. The more Obama makes the claim the more Americans realize
what the issue really is: Affirmitive Action.
Obama wants to be president. Obama is black; and that's enough.
Anyone even questioning his qualifications must then be a "racist."
To hell with him.

Wash. Times article misquoted Clinton comment it claimed "seemed to diminish
the accomplishments" of King
Summary: A Washington Times article misrepresented Sen. Hillary Clinton's
January 7 statement on civil rights -- which it claimed "seemed to diminish
the accomplishments of Martin Luther King in the civil rights movement -- by
reporting that she said: "Dr. King's dream began to be realized when
President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a
president to get it done." But Clinton actually said: "Dr. King's dream
began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights
Act of 1964, when he was able to get through Congress something that
President Kennedy was hopeful to do, the president before had not even
tried, but it took a president...

Real Change
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Columnist

I put a dollar in one of those change machines. Nothing changed.
- George Carlin
Change, right?
That's been the big buzzword since the middle of December or
thereabouts. While the last days of 2007 bled away one by one, and as
the pre-Iowa political bedlam became loud beyond endurance, "change"
was the word on the lips of every candidate. One could not swing a
dead cat by the tail in Ames or Des Moines without swatting campaign
literature pledging "change to come," but only if they got the votes.

Obama camp complains to Nevada Dems
Obama Camp Complains to Nevada Democratic Party About Irregularities
During State Caucuses
JIM KUHNHENN
AP News
Jan 23, 2008 19:28 EST
Barack Obama's presidential campaign complained in a letter to the
Nevada Democratic Party Wednesday that rival Hillary Rodham Clinton
benefited from numerous violations of party rules during the state's
caucuses on Saturday.
Clinton won the popular vote by a margin of 51 percent to 45 percent.
Under complicated delegate allocation rules, however, Obama could
receive 13 delegates to Clinton's 12.
