The peg will not continue forever. The dollar has lost 60 percent of
its value against the Euro during the years of the Bush regime.
Already, China is having to adjust the peg. When the peg goes, Wal-
Mart shoppers will think they are in Neiman Marcus

NO JOBS FOR THE NEW ECONOMY OR THE OLD
Published 01/11/08 by Paul Craig Roberts
Story Highlights
13,000 private sector jobs lost in December 2007
Waitresses and bartenders accounted for 29%% of the new jobs in 2007,
Architectural and engineering services account for only 54,700 jobs
Paul Craig Roberts: "There were more jobs for hospital orderlies than
for architects and engineers. Waitresses and bartenders accounted for
as many of last year's new jobs as the entirety of professional and
business services."
December did not bring Americans any jobs. To the contrary, the
private sector lost 13,000 jobs from the previous month.
If December is a harbinger of the new year, it is going to be a bad
one. The past...

AN ISRAELI SOLDIER DESCRIBES THE SAVAGERY
My first Lebanon raid was in 1986. I was a 19-year-old Israeli
conscript, and my paratroop platoon was sent to a village whose name I can't
recall.... We broke down the door of a home, shoved the family aside, and
pulled a middle-aged man outside. After blindfolding him and tying his hands
behind his back, we took him to a secluded alley, forced him to his knees,
and put a gun to his head, threatening to shoot if he didn't talk. A U.N.
peacekeeper appeared and put an end to that incident, but there was more to
come.
The next day we performed a mock execution on a 10-year-old Lebanese boy. We
forced his family into the kitchen and dragged him to a nearby orchard. My
lieutenant pressed the child's face into the dirt while I jammed my rifle
against his skull.
Although the officer threatened to shoot his head off, the boy did not
respond, keeping silent...
I was a recent transfer from another unit, and my colleagues were more
familiar with the drill... The elderly, female, and young villagers were
trapped in their homes, ordered to observe a 24-hour curfew. Their men were
gathered in a central square, blindfolded, and hauled off for questioning.

Sympathizers submitted hundreds of questions to al-Qaida deputy leader
Ayman al-Zawahri's "on-line interview" before a recent deadline. Among
them: Why hasn't al-Qaida attacked the U.S. again, why isn't it
attacking the Israelis and when will it be more active in Egypt, Saudi
Arabia and Syria?
So far, there have been no answers.
Al-Qaida's media arm, Al-Sahab, announced in December that al-Zawahri
would take questions from the public posted on Islamic militant Web
sites and would respond "as soon as possible."
More than 900 entries -- many with multiple questions -- were posted on
the main Islamist Web site until the cutoff date of Jan. 16. After the
deadline, the questions disappeared from that site and no answers have
yet appeared.
One thing is clear from the questions: Self-proclaimed al-Qaida
supporters are as much in the dark about the terror network's
operations and intentions as Western analysts and intelligence
agencies.

I guess the all important senile GOP voting bloc didn't pan out.
But the important question is, will he follow the proud Republican
tradition of hawking for Viagra?
I can see it now:
THOMPSON: "Because Viagra... I think I pooped in my pants again."

Study: False statements preceded war
WASHINGTON - A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that
President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false
statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years
following the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The study concluded that the statements "were part of an orchestrated
campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led
the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses."
The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public
Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism. White
House spokesman Scott Stanzel said he could not comment on the study because
he had not seen it.
The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that
in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration
officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had
weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had
links to al-Qaida or both.

From the church-friendly Bella to the raunchy Knocked Up, film after film
depicted its main character facing an unplanned pregnancy and opting not for
abortion, but for carrying the unborn child to term. Sometimes the mother
kept the baby (Knocked Up, Waitress), and sometimes she gave the baby up for
adoption (Bella, Juno, August Rush). But in each of these films, the mother,
and sometimes the father, made a critical decision that was decidedly
"pro-life."
Children of Men kicked off the year with a dystopian sci-fi tale in which
Earth's entire population is infertile; no babies have been born in 18
years. Along comes a woman who is, inexplicably, pregnant. Clive Owen plays
Theo, a sort of modern-day Joseph who must deliver the woman, and her unborn
child, to safe haven. When the baby is born in a war zone, the dazed Theo
utters just two words: "Jesus Christ." The Lord's name in vain? Or a nod to
a miracle child who holds all hope for humankind's future?

(CNN) -- The bitter back-and-forth between former President Bill Clinton and
Sen. Barack Obama has led a prominent black lawmaker to tell the former
president Monday to "chill a little bit."
Sen. Barack Obama marches in a Martin Luther King memorial parade in
Columbia, South Carolina, Monday.
The two Democratic front-runners, Illinois Sen. Obama and New York Sen.
Hillary Clinton, are locked in a battle for the key South Carolina primary
this Saturday.
As their campaign sparring continues, the Illinois senator seems to be
spending almost as much time responding to Hillary Clinton's husband as he
does to the candidate herself.
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, one of the most powerful African-Americans
in Congress, weighed in on the feud Monday, saying it was time for Bill
Clinton to watch his words.

Guess the first black President isn't so black any more.
