As new reports are emerging about vote-counting problems and potential
conflicts of interest regarding handling of ballots, a Democratic
congressman has introduced new legislation that would make it easier
for states to audit their election results.
Rep. Rush Holt's bill was introduced the same day that Maryland voters
learned the security of their electronic voting machines would be
entrusted to a high-profile Republican operative, and as activists
were documenting irregularities in last week's New Hampshire primary.
Brad Friedman, who has been following the New Hampshire primary vote
recount reports his latest findings of problems being disovered with
the Diebold machines:

Judge Allows Nevada Caucuses to Proceed

SAN FRANCISCO — A federal judge in Nevada on Thursday turned down a
challenge to the state partyÂ’s plans to hold caucuses Saturday at nine
casinos on the Las Vegas Strip. The state teacherÂ’s union had filed a
lawsuit challenging the fairness of the rules allowing casinos workers
to participate in their caucuses, saying it was unfair to other
workers in the city.
Federal District Judge James Mahan disagreed and declined to issue a
temporary injunction. “State Democrats have a First Amendment right to
association, to assemble and to set their own rules,” Judge Mahan
said.

suggest that he had indirectly referred to Sen. Barack Obama's
youthful use of illegal drugs, BET founder Robert Johnson is saying
today that his remarks were "inappropriate" and has issued an apology.
