Robert Scheer: The Terror America Wrought
Robert Scheer, Truthdig, August 7, 2007
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/080807B.shtml
During a week of mayhem in Iraq, in which terrorists have rightly been
condemned for targeting schoolchildren, it is sobering to recall that
this week is also the 62nd anniversary of a U.S. attack that
deliberately took the lives of thousands of children on their way to
school in the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As noted in
the Strategic Bombing Survey conducted at President Harry Truman's
request, when the bomb hit Hiroshima on April 6, 1945, "nearly all the
school children ... were at work in the open," to be exploded,
irradiated or incinerated in the perfect firestorm that the planners
back at the University of California-run Los Alamos lab had envisioned
for the bomb's maximum psychological impact.

That's right! The next ELECTED PRESIDENT, just like her husband was the
last ELECTED PRESIDENT!
She wants everyone to join her in changing this nation, to get respect from
the world! Not, like we have now, with the SELECTED COKEHEAD SCUM.
Suck it up pugs.....You're all going to get a new home, over in Iraq,
compliments of Madam President.

Are Conservatives Born That Way?
by Nick Paccione
..................................................................................................
Conservatives' tough "cowboy ways" are at the root of the reason that
we need protection from terrorists in light of the hornet's nest that
their misguided policies have stirred up in the Middle East.
No matter, it's plain to see that "wimpy" and "frightened" are far
more appropriate terms in describing conservatives.
Led by George W Bush, conservatives have dismantled our constitution,
labor laws, environmental protection and necessary social programs.
Every move they make is rooted in unbridled childlike fear.
They're afraid, or so they say, that if we don't fight terrorists in
an arbitrary place like Iraq then they'll come and get us over here.
They're afraid that immigrants will somehow pollute American culture
(whatever that means).
They're afraid that science will challenge their rabid religious
dogmatism.

Pentagon promotes militant Christianity to US troops in Iraq
by Weldon Berger
What could possibly go wrong with a scheme to introduce tens of
thousands of young, stressed out soldiers fighting a guerrilla war in
a Muslim country to a particularly bloody-minded brand of aggressively
evangelical apocalyptic Christianity?
As Max Blumenthal reports in The Nation, the Pentagon is on a quest —
one might say a crusade — to find out.
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/notion?bid=15&pid=220960
As an official arm of the Defense Department's America Supports You
program, [Operation Straight Up] plans to mail copies of the
controversial apocalyptic video game, Left Behind: Eternal Forces to
soldiers serving in Iraq.
OSU is also scheduled to embark on a "Military Crusade in Iraq" in the
near future.

Roadside bomb attacks in Iraq reach an all-time high
By Kim Sengupta
Roadside bomb attacks on American troops in Iraq reached an all-time
high last month, accounting for more than one third of all combat
deaths.
The increase in the number of casualties caused by the explosive
devices comes at the height of the "surge' of US forces which, the
Pentagon claims, is broadly a success.

Hey, Georgie, how's yer ole "surge" doin'?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO.O) Chief Executive
Officer John Chambers said on Wednesday the global economy is the
strongest he has seen, but he expects bumps in the U.S. economy in the
next few quarters.
Chambers made the comments during a CNBC television interview a day
after Cisco reported a better-than-expected quarterly profit and
raised its long-term revenue target on strong demand for its advanced
network equipment.
"It's the strongest global economy I've seen in my career," Chambers
told CNBC, citing Asia, emerging markets and Europe.
Asked about the U.S. economy, Chambers said he expects some bumps in
the next few quarters.
"We plan three to five years out. I view the next quarter or two as
maybe a little bumpy, but the long term outlook from our customers is
very solid," he said.

Disaster looms as 'Saddam dam' struggles to hold back the Tigris
August 8 2007
As world attention focuses on the daily slaughter in Iraq, a devastating
disaster is impending in the north of the country, where the wall of a dam
holding back the Tigris river north of Mosul city is in danger of imminent
collapse. "It could go at any minute," says a senior aid worker who has
knowledge of the struggle by US and Iraqi engineers to save the dam. If the
dam does fail, a wall of water will sweep into Mosul, Iraq's third largest
city with a population of 1.7 million, 20 miles to the south.
