My thanks to the kind reader who sent me the program from this year's
Christmas carol service at the Old Royal Naval College chapel in
Greenwich. It was written by the Rev Jules Gomes, chaplain of the
college, and of Trinity College of Music, and also of the University
of Greenwich.

Here is the good chaplain's Christmas message: "More Christians have
been martyred for their faith in the last century than in any other
period of church history. Yesterday's Herod is today's Richard Dawkins
and Polly Toynbee, seeking the total extermination of all forms of
Christianity. The great irony is that the greatest opposition to
Christ comes from so-called broad-minded people who seek to ban
Christmas so that people of other faiths are not offended."

Police academy class slogan: Cause PTSD

BOISE, Idaho - A state police academy leader has disavowed the slogan of the
most recent graduating class urging one another to "go out and cause"
post-traumatic stress disorder.

Each class at the Idaho Police Officer Standards and Training Academy is
allowed to choose a slogan that is printed on its graduation programs, and
the class of 43 graduates came up with "Don't suffer from PTSD, go out and
cause it."

According to the Veterans Association, tens of thousands of U.S. soldiers
suffer from PTSD, which causes nightmares, flashbacks and physical symptoms
that make sufferers feel as if they are reliving trauma, even many years
later. Crime, accidents and other trauma can cause it in civilians.

Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney, who attended the Dec. 14 graduation, pointed
out the slogan to the academy's director, Jeff Black, minutes before the
ceremony began, Raney said. A photograph of the program was e-mailed
anonymously to news outlets throughout the state.

There are 25,000 Jews living in Iran. When Israel backed a plan to pay
Iranian Jewish families $60,000 to settle in Israel, Society of Iranian Jews
met the announcement with scorn, issuing this statement: "The identity of
Iranian Jews is not tradable for any amount of money. Iranian Jews are among
the most ancient Iranians. Iran's Jews love their Iranian identity and their
culture, so threats and this immature political enticement will not achieve
their aim of wiping out the identity of Iranian Jews."

Project to lure Jews out of Iran proves unsuccessful

Following the revelation in October that $10,000 per person was being
offered by a Chicago-based Christian-Jewish nonprofit to encourage Jews to
leave Iran and immigrate to Israel, organizers of the project in Israel and
the United States admitted to being disappointed with the lack of response
to their efforts.

The offer will end this month at the conclusion of the one-year project.

Begun in January by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews
(IFCJ), which has offices in Chicago and Jerusalem, the program offers
funding through the Jewish Agency in Israel, which spearheaded it. IFCJ
officials reported that of the 20,000 Jews still living in Iran, only 125
have accepted the funds.
