ALEXANDRIA — A traveling minister who served in the Worthington area
was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to second-degree criminal
sexual conduct against a 10-year-old girl from the Alexandria area.
Timothy Knut Severud, 42, is a minister for a religious sect that
technically has no name. Members refer to each other as Friends or
Christians, but they are often referred to as “Two by Twos” because of
their tradition of sending pairs of missionaries to evangelize. Their
ministers have officially registered the group with various government
agencies under the name “the Christian Conventions” in the U.S.

With good-time credit and an appellate court order, a former youth
pastor convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting young boys in his
care will be out of prison shortly.
The former youth pastor at Good Shepherd United Brethren Church in
Huntington, Mark Kline, 44, pleaded guilty in 1997 to 22 charges,
including child molesting. Some of the assaults occurred at an
apartment on church property where Kline lived. He admitted
befriending boys, drugging them and performing sex acts on them
without their knowledge on numerous occasions between 1993 and 199

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Gregory Louis Clarke, 53, was sentenced today in U.S.
District Court to serve 21 months in prison for filing false income
tax returns. U.S. District Court Judge Inge Johnson ordered Clarke to
pay $35,684 in restitution. Clarke will report to the Bureau of
Prisons on February 15, 2008.
Clarke was indicted in March 2007, and was convicted by a federal jury
in July 2007 of filing false income tax returns for the 2000, 2001 and
2002 tax years. At trial, evidence revealed that Clarke had
under-reported his income in the approximate amount of $110,000 for
the tax years listed above. Also at trial, the jury found that the
unreported income was compensation to Clarke.
The unreported income came from the New Hope Baptist Church, the New
Hope Christian School, the New Hope Federal Credit Union, and other
sources.

A Marianna woman who used to worked at a Dania Beach church today
pleaded guilty to federal charges that she defrauded the church of
about $800,000, according to the U. S. Attorney's Office.
Joann Bolliger, 56, previously had pleaded not guilty to the charges
following her indictment in December 2005. St. Maurice Catholic Church
in 2001 ordered an independent audit of its financial records, which
is when the missing money was discovered, officials said at the time.
In the indictment prosecutors said Bolliger and Lisa Mazurkevitch, 41,
of Plantation, forged payroll checks. Prosecutors also had accused
Bolliger of deducting federal income tax, social security and Medicare
payments from employee's pay checks but not sending the money to the
federal government.

A sex and murder scandal in a KwaZulu-Natal church has been exposed in
papers before the Durban High Court with allegations that the leader
has raped members of the congregation and has hired a hit man to wipe
out those threatening to expose him.
The urgent application was brought by five former members of the
congregation of the National Christian Assemblies of God in
Izingolweni, on the South Coast, against its archbishop, Christopher
Sandile Ndlovu, and his sister, Zodwa Kheswa.

Offshoring Interests and Economic Dogma
Shrinking the US Dollar from the Inside-Out
By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS
On December 8, Chinese and French news services reported that Iran had
stopped billing its oil exports in dollars.
Americans might never hear this news as the independence of the US
media was destroyed in the 1990s when Rupert Murdoch persuaded the
Clinton administration and the quislings in Congress to allow the US
media to be monopolized by a few mega-corporations.
Iran's oil minister, Gholam Hossein Nozari, declared: "The dollar is
an unreliable currency in regards to its devaluation and the loss oil
exporters have endured from this trend." Iran has proposed to OPEC
that the US dollar no longer be used by any oil exporting countries.
As the oil emirates and the Saudis have already decided to reduce
their holdings of US dollars, the US might actually find itself having
to pay for its energy imports in euros or yen.

While the Bush Administration Dallies, the Crisis Deepens
The Consequences the Trade Deficit
By PETER MORICI
Yesterday, the Commerce Department reported the third quarter current
account deficit was $178.5 billion, down from $188.9 billion in the
second quarter. The deficit exceeded 5.4 percent of GDP.
The current account is the broadest measure of the U.S. trade balance.
In addition to trade in goods and services, it includes income
received from U.S. investments abroad less payments to foreigners on
their investments in the United States.
In the third quarter, the United States had a $26.5 surplus on trade
in services and a $20.5 billion surplus on income payments. This was
hardly enough to offset the massive $199.7 billion deficit on trade in
goods, and net unilateral transfers to foreigners equal to $25.8
billion.
