"The Barefoot Mailman" starred Robert Cummings as the title character, a
scoundrel with a contract mail route in the jungle wilds of south
Florida in the 1890s, when the famous cities of today were merely
outposts on the beach of jungles. In the opening scene, the mailman is
walking along the beach when he spots a gang of men intent on robbing
the mails. He jumps into a swamp only to encounter an alligator, which
he manages to outrun after the bandits leave.
