A 101-year-old Florida woman known as the oldest driver on the planet says
people may be surprised she renewed her driver's license until 2011. Lillian
Cox began driving in 1915 and can still be seen
putting around Tallahassee, Fla., in her 1984 sedan,. "They're surprised
that I'd get a driver's license at 101. But I have four more years," she
said. "I'm sure I look (101 years old)
but they don't let me know that." Cox said, however, she wants to be
driven to her upcoming appearance on "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in a
limousine.

ven though the Aeroscraft dwarfs the largest commercial airliners, it
requires less net space on the ground than any plane because it
doesn't need a runway. The airship takes off and lands like a
helicopter, straight up and down.
This is not a Blimp. It's a sort of flying Queen Mary 2 that could
change the way you think about air travel. It's the Aeroscraft, and
when it's completed, it will ferry pampered passengers across
continents and oceans as they stroll leisurely about the one-acre
cabin or relax in their staterooms.
Unlike its dirigible ancestors, the Aeroscraft is not lighter than air.
It's 14 million cubic feet of helium hoist only two-thirds of the
craft's weight. The rigid and surprisingly aerodynamic body, driven by
huge rear-ward propellers, generates enough additional lift to keep
the behemoth and its 400-ton payload aloft while cruising.
During takeoff and landing, six turbo-fan jet engines push the ship up
or ease its descent. This two-football-fields-long airship is the
brainchild of Igor Pasternak, whose privately funded California firm,
Worldwide Aeros Corporation, is in the early stages of developing a
prototype and expects to have one completed by 2010.

I'm home! My sister and her husband flew to Anchorage on Saturday morning.
Their flight for Frankfurt, Germany, was supposed to leave at 3:30 that
afternoon. About the time they were expecting to hear a boarding
announcement, they heard one that said, "The plane cannot fly. The plane is
broke."
To make a long story short, they were flying an airline that has only one or
two flights a week to Frankfurt. The flight actually took off on Monday
afternoon. In the meantime, as they had tried to juggle their trip
arrangements, they realized that they'd have to cut out much of what they
wanted to do, and would be without a rental car, so they decided to scrub
the trip and go home. I came home yesterday (Thursday). They're going to
try to go in August, and I'll go up there to dogsit then.
I'm tired. I'll write more later.
