Yeah, Gamefan really was tough to figure out. I remember when Final Fight
CD was reviewed, they gushed over it, giving it a rating in the high 90's.
I mean, at this point, Final Fight was probably 3 or 4 years old, but they
gave it darn near a perfect rating... I also remember they constantly
complained about the fact Capcom wouldn't do a home port of the arcade
version of Willow. Go figure. In their obsession to be "hard core", they
just seemed neurotic. Yeah, ok, I'll pay 500 bucks to import a Super Grafx
system to play a craptacular version of Strider, and a Ghouls N' Ghosts that
looks marginally better than the Genesis version. Who hadn't played these
games to death by the time the SG versions were released? Was it Gamefan
that dedicated an editor's page to why everyone should give the Jaguar a
serious look?

Well, I've still got a Nomad, and I do have SF2 SCE. I did beat Zelda 2 on
Game Boy Advance yesterday. First time I've played through that game since
probably 1992. I really do think I'll always consider 1988-1996 to be the
golden age of video games. A lot of those games were truly incredible.

I'd consider buying an NES if I could be sure I wouldn't have to blow in the
carts or tap them a dozen times to get them to play. I think a lot of
people do look at most of those 8-bit games through rose colored glasses
though. A lot of what we consider "classic" games, haven't stood the test
of time very well to me. Ninja Gaiden is probably the worst example of
this. Back in the day, I thought TMNT2: The Arcade Game was a technological
marvel for the NES, now I can't tolerate it. If I got another NES, my first
picks would be Jackal, Contra, Super Contra, and Galaga. I'd also buy
Milan's Secret Castle, but only so I could break it with a sledge hammer.
