LEGAL: Geno's "Order In English" Sign STAYS!

The City of Philadelphi's Human Relations Commission (PCRH) had filed a
complaint against Geno's Steaks for its sign that says "This is America.
Order In English." They claimed that it violated the Fair Practices
Ordinance.

Geno's won. The sign can stay!

What's interesting about this complaint is that the City brought it all by
itself. No one had filed an individual complaint against Geno's, so the
city threw on its cape.

At the same time, Philadelphia Park's casino placed a full-page ad in the
City Paper for its casino waitstaff. They had "auditions" and sought
attractive people for the jobs. The ad had a drawing of a woman in a bikini
bathing in an oversized champagne glass.

I guess it's okay to hire for looks in Philadelphia if you do so in English.

There are many jobs where you can legally hire for looks. I expect that
casino waitress is one of those jobs, but there are many others. Strippers
are hired that way too. Wake up and smell the roses....

Your view of equal opportunity is rather simplistic, like your view of the
law, won't stand up to actual litigation. I wonder if you will wash and
wear real clothes if you ever do get to stand up in front of a judge? Cut
your hair and that Grizzly Adams beard?

After the ruling, the sign appeared on the courthouse with its legal
advisers, to thank its supporters. It especially thanked the pole to
which it was attached, which it described as "a tower of strength,
keeping me upright when things seemed bleakest".

Media gossip suggests that the sign may use this bout of unexpected
publicity to get its own reality-TV show.

Suggestions of running for political office on a campaign ticket of
"speaking out to the public" were not directly denied.

Or, translated into English:
