Speeding's problem was that he just liked to argue and argue and argue, no
matter how much evidence or how many examples were presented to show he was
wrong. He'd just revise and refine his claim, pretending he did just get
his argumentative ass handed to him over his original premise.
His goal wasn't to reach a conclusion, but rather to maintain the argument
and keep it going as long as possible.
You could tell him the sun was hot and yellow and he would then parse the
definition of hot, and argue that yellow isn't actually a color.
