There is a provision in Federal law giving immunity for blocking certain
content and denying liability for blocking same.
A reading of the law would appear to give grounds and legal immunity to
institute a UDP (Usenet Death Penalty) upon someone who is being
harassing, abusive or disruptive to a newsgroup, in effect, cancelling
their messages constantly any time they post.
So I'm curious if there is interest in invoking the provisions of
federal law to shitcan a particular disruptive user's worthless messages
and, in effect, bar them from further posting here.
The statute in question is 47 U.S.C. 230(c)(2) which reads, "2) CIVIL
LIABILITY- No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall
be held liable on account of--
"(A) any action voluntarily taken in good faith to restrict access to or
availability of material that the provider or user considers to be
obscene, lewd, lascivious, filthy, excessively violent, harassing, or
otherwise objectionable, whether or not such material is
constitutionally protected; "
