http://www.visionandpsychosis.net/Cults.htm

Cults exist by definition of groups that oppose them. Within the cult
they usually believe they have instructions from a superior or often
supernatural source to convert non-believers to their cause. How does
that belief arise? Is there a common source of the 'delusional belief
set' that drives cults? The thesis of this page is that there may be
such a common source. That source is Subliminal Distraction.

What causes normal people to adopt the bizarre often paranormal
beliefs of cults? Inductees often donate their entire worth and
sometimes share wives or abstain from sex as part of the accepted
behavior expectation of the new group. Haven't you ever wondered what
could cause the abrupt life changes?

The accidental naming of a rescue form as "deprogramming" gives us a
hint to what is involved, operant conditioning.

Humans are aware of "self" and their surroundings so that a reward
stimulus is normally recognized and thus will fail to achieve operant
conditioning. But Subliminal Distraction involves the subliminal
detection of threat movement in peripheral vision. Thus the victim is
unaware anything is happening.

I once saw a "Chi Demonstration" that purported to show a skeptic
that
chi really exists... basically, the subject was told to stand up
straight and hold his arms out in front of him... the teacher would
push down on his arms and cause the subject to lose his balance and
take a step to right himself... then the demonstration was repeated,
but this time the teacher would run his hands up and down the
subject's arms to 'prime the chi' before the demonstration.  This
time
the person would not stumble no matter how hard the teacher pushed
down on his hands...

I didn't find the demonstration to be very convincing, but several of
my friends did...

A short time later, I saw an infomercial for 'orthotics' shoe
inserts.  On the infomercial I saw the exact same demonstration, only
this time it was supposed to prove that the orthotics worked.

I found the whole thing very amusing.

Moral of the story:  Some people can be convinced of anything if you
push them the right way.

You are missing one important thing here, little fascist: Freedom.

If people want to form and join what _you_ call "cults", then they can.

They don't need your approval or consent and they don't even have to
listen to your opinion on the subject.

I know that you and the other criminals who belong to "Anonymous" think
you can harass any "cults" that you don't like into extinction, but
you can't.

People see through your carefully cultivated image, which is
completely bogus. They know that you are lying about yourselves
and about the Church of Scientology. They see the ugliness you
represent.

Ironically, Scientology could turn you into mentally healthy
human beings if you were willing to work at it.

But it is so much easier to hate, isn't it?
