How is a person illegal? I realize there are provisions in the US
Code regarding entry, and fraudulent or elusive behavior to gain entry
into the US is clearly prohibited and criminal conduct. However, I
can find no statute which makes simply being in the US without
documentation a crime. It seems the mere presence of an undocumented
person in the US is not accepted by any court that I have found as
being evidence that the person committed any crime, or even that a
crime has been committed. Statutes from criminal trespass don't seem
to apply, and it seems like measures from civil trespass might have to
be stretched a bit to work. It is had for me to see how simple
geographic presence can be made illegal without resorting to a
"papers, please" type of environment.
But aside from that, how can anyone who claims to be a "Christian"
favor criminal prosecution of a person based simply on geographic
location? Who would Jesus arrest?

Could you point to the specific language or specific part? All I have
been able to find is quota designations and references to similar acts
in 1924 and 1952. I can't find the language which makes being here
(without documentation) a crime in itself.
