Fathers, daughters gather to pledge 'purity'

Event underscores importance of relationship in curbing promiscuity

In a "counter-cultural" event, fathers and daughters from across the
nation are gathering tomorrow for the annual Father-Daughter Purity
Ball in Colorado Springs.

Created in 1998 by Colorado Springs parents Randy and Lisa Wilson, the
event has birthed a "purity ball" movement across the nation that has
attracted international media attention. Journalists from Britain,
Canada, Italy, Finland and Norway will cover Friday's gathering at the
Broadmoor Hotel.

"This event is about restoring fatherhood - one of the most critical
issues facing our culture today," said Randy Wilson. "Research shows

Or, as in this case, "J Young morality and decency":

"A FUNDAMENTALIST church pastor had sex with two of his teenage daughters to
educate them on how to be good wives, a South Australian court has heard.

The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named, was today sentenced in the SA
District Court to eight and a half years jail after pleading guilty to seven
counts each of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade
from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

The sex took place at various locations including in a shearer's shed, a
paddock, on the back of a ute and, on one occasion, at the girls'
grandparents house.

The man told the court the sex was not about fulfilling his desires but
about teaching his daughters how to behave for their husbands when they
eventually married, as dictated in scripture.

Tell us, in which way abstinence has anything to do with morality?
You know, J Young, just because no one wants to have sex with you,
doesn't mean that no one should have sex with anyone either...

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's a bit disturbing? Fathers
protecting their daughters' virginity? For goodness sake. Daughters
telling their fathers they would remain a virgin?

It seems a bit controlling to me. Yes fathers hate the thought of their
baby going and getting shagged, but hey! It's something to be got over.

I think, ummm, "you bring her home and the lock is cut, I'll rip off
your balls - ok!"

In fact, actual studies have shown that they're counter-productive.
Those who pledge abstinence end up having more sex, with more
partners, starting at an earlier age, than those who don't.
