Congratulations! to those readers who have resolutely continued with the
Daily Reading for the last six months. For they have now read half the Old
Testament, and ALL of the New.

In honour of the day.
To get really political and alienate everyone, the question the song
poses is still valid. We talk about being free and we mostly are, but
very few of us are committed to maintaining and defending that
freedom. All too many of my fellow citizens are perfectly willing to
sell their freedom for the chimera of security.
The lack of outrage over the Human Rights Tribunals in Canada has been
disheartening. The news from England is even more depressing. That's
not to say there isn't hope. Even as the ACLU has abandoned its core
commitments to the Bill of Rights in favour of a leftie agenda, the
Internet has provided an extremely valuable tool for organizing
freedom lovers from all nations in ad hoc, issue by issue groups.
Youtube has proven a huge asset in shining the light of publicity on
authoritarian asshats all over the globe.
The last 232 years have been a pretty good run for our country. I hope
and pray that our commitment to remaining free does not flag. With
some luck, the world may grow more free rather than less. We certainly
can try to make it so.

Thank GOD I own no Telstra shares , this will cost them hundreds of
millions AGAIN , 24 /7 protection and moving costs for everybody in
the area
Pity everybody who lives in Pheifer court Mount barker, Kanga has
never ever lived any where near it or ever even enterered any house in
the area or street, and never ever made one call from the phone number
he is listing , clearly the halfwit white christian terrorist is only
got half a brain , if that, a real psychopath if ever there was one
Seems white christians are permitted to post bomb threats on Telstra
in Australia
Any Muslim posting bomb threats would be arrested in minutes and get
25 years jail
This white christian uses Telstra and has made hundreds of threats
with
complete immunity
Clearly the system is biased , police wont touch the white christians

matter what they do

Review: Taking God to Heart, by Brian Gallagher MSC, St Pauls 2008.
When our family returned home in 1983 after a couple of years in North
America, I had two important questions to ask my friends: 'Who is
reputed to be the most discerning Spiritual Director in Melbourne? And
who's the best teacher of Spiritual Direction here?' A name for each
emerged, and (cheekily) I asked one to be my Director, and audited a
course by the other!
The course was taught by Brian Gallagher at the Catholic Yarra
Theological Union. He had just set up the Heart of Life Spirituality
Centre, and he impressed me as someone who had his feet firmly on the
ground, while being an authentic person, and pray-er, and a keen student
about how humans relate to God.
'Taking God to Heart', writes Father Gallagher is not primarily about
Spiritual Direction, though a lot of Brian's approach to this classical
discipline is here. It's also not about prayer as such, but about
authentic living - including being 'truly present' for others. So the
most-repeated 'mantra' is Dom John Chapman's well-known advice 'Pray as
you can, not as you can't' (see the Wikipedia article on Chapman for more).
