At first, Ellen White, prophetess of the Seventh Day Adventist
church,
was absolutely correct when she spoke on the subject of sin and
salvation. She stated that we must keep the Sabbath, sin was
transgression of the ten commandment law of God and that only those
who ceased from all willful sin would receive eternal life.
However, in 1863 she was given a vision by an angel which required
"Health Reform" for all those who were to receive eternal life. One
of the requirements of Health Reform was to stop eating flesh foods -
no meat - clean or unclean.
Mrs. White insisted that the gospel now included Health Reform. "The
LORD has given instruction that the Gospel is to be carried forward;
and the GOSPEL INCLUDES HEALTH REFORM in all its phases." {TSDF 88.5}
James White* stated specifically that without control of appetite
there was no hope of heaven: "...one of the highest attainments in
the
Christian life is to control appetite, and that, without this
victory,
all hope of heaven is vain." Christian Temperance 206

The Sabbath is a test. Will we obey every word that proceedeth out of
the mouth of God --or not? To excuse their disobedience to the
Sabbath Commandment, some Christians will say that it is only for the
Jews; or, what day we observe isn't really important; or, we probably
can't trace the calendar to when the manna was given, etc.
I am going to answer those objections with the words and life of Jesus
Christ, our Saviour. Jesus is the final authority to consult about
the Sabbath and its observance; because he sanctified it at creation;
gave the Commandment; and will judge us all as
we stand before His judgment seat. Jesus said:
"... The sabbath was made for man, ..." : Mark 2:27
The meaning of MAN: anthropos = i.e. a human being. So if you are a
human being, the Sabbath was made for you. Yes, Jesus Christ
sanctified The Sabbath Day at Creation, for the scriptures say of
Him:
"All things were made by him; and without him was not
any thing made that was made." John 1:3
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all
the host of them.

Good morning colleagues
I remember doing a seminar with an inner suburban Anglican church and
asking them what their strengths are... 'We're a welcoming/friendly
church', they said. Then I asked 'Think of the names of anyone who has
been 'welcomed' here and has stayed more than a year, say in the last
ten years'. They couldn't think of anyone!!!!
Reason? There was a core group - people related to each other - who had
a sense of ownership in that place, and after an initial warm welcome,
newcomers felt they were gradually frozen out of/ not invited to this
and that...
This week I received this from a pastor-friend:
*****
> Hi Rowland,

> I thought you might be a good person to sound out about a theory I'm
working on, through my IIM journey. The term I've adopted for the
phenomenon in question is "Dynastic churches". I've no idea whether
that's a recognised term or whether other folks have used some other
vocab to describe the same thing.
> But anyway, I've found myself in a number of churches over the years
(including in fact the one where I was minister throughout the 1990's)
where the core membership - often including key leadership...

Whenever the question of the Sabbath is discussed, those who do not
keep it holy will inevitably appeal to Colossians 2:16 as their
authority for disobeying the fourth
commandment of God.
What exactly did Paul mean when he wrote:
"Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of
a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days:" (KJV)
Yes, when Paul said "Sabbaths" he meant the seventh day Sabbath - but
that does not mean that Paul was canceling the requirement for
obedience to a commandment of God. What God has commanded only God can
set aside. One may search the New Testament for a thousand years and
he will not find a single verse that says God has abrogated one "jot
or tittle" of His fourth commandment.
