That is correct. Only the elect, whom God chose, will receive
saving faith in Christ, and it will be by faith in Christ's
work, not personal merits, or will (John 1:13; Rom. 9; etc.).
But that does not mean that therefore Christ died only for the
elect, which the Bible nowhere states.
Fact is, even the elect must be saved by objective faith in
the proclaimed word of God, regarding Christ's death and
resurrection for their sins. We are not saved by the arrogant
assumption that somehow we must be elect, therefore Christ
must have died for us, which is putting the cart before the
ox. We are saved by believing Christ died for all men's sins.
It was not enough that the blood of the Passover lamb be shed.
No, it also had to be applied to the doorpost of a house,
before the angel of death would pass over it. In the same
way, even the elect are not saved, until God applies the value
of Christ's atonement to the doorpost of their soul, through
faith in the gospel of Christ's death and resurrection. The
lost perish then, not because Christ's atonement wasn't
sufficient to pay for their sins, but because the value of His
atonement was never applied to their account through faith.

Christ died for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead.
Rely on this work alone to escape hell and receive eternal
life (Jn. 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-3; Eph. 2:8-10; 2 Thess. 1:8-9).
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself
up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every
thought to make it obedient to Christ. †2 Corinthians 10:5
