Last year Christmas day found our house full of people, people who came
from all over the country to help us through a difficult time. They
brought with them love, support, distraction and even laughter.
This year is different.
Its after 9AM on Christmas morning and Tony (our remaining son) is still
asleep. I cannot remember any time in the past 19 years that either of
my kids slept past 6. in the past, Elena and I have spent Christmas
mornings watching the boys open their presents and start bartering for
the choicest selections. Their interests were always alike enough that
for most of the gifts we would just randomly assign names and let them
sort it out. Being Christmas, they always kept the violence to a minimum.
So Christmas morning has always been a raucous, noisy and entertaining
affair.
Not so this year.

Joe...though I don't personally believe in 'god' when my parents lost
a child they both gave credit to 'god' for allowing them to
continue...it was always different afterwards and they never really
got over it, but they did continue...I hope you and yours do too. Like
many I don't have the words or know how to put them together when I
read a post such as this one.
Take care

Of course its different Joe, and it will be for many years to come.
Get used to that.
I went through 20 years of not knowing or bothering with loving my kids.
Sure I loved them... while waiting for the next drink.
Then I had grandkids. I'm sane today and I flipping adore them cheeky
buggers. Joe I know what loss feels like.
Stick it out through thick and thin and someday, your daughter in law will
produce a baby, and you will know then. I can't explain what you will know,
I think you've already felt these emotions and now they feel out of reach
for you.
I don't bloody know what love is, its a lump in my groin and a lump in my
belly or a lump in my throat. Loss is that same lump and it sucks.
