  HOSTAGE RESCUE IN COLOMBIA

Author: Ken P
Date: Jul 4, 2008 09:41

"The bloodless and apparently brilliant operation to free 15
hostages from the Colombian jungle today became mired in
confusion, with some reports even claiming that the entire
episode was nothing but a sham to disguise the payment of a ransom.

Swiss public radio cited an unidentified source ¿close to the
events, reliable and tested many times in recent years" as saying
the operation had in fact been staged to cover up the fact that
the US and Colombians had paid $20 million for their freedom.

The hostages released on Wednesday, including Ingrid Betancourt,
the French-Colombian politician, "were in reality ransomed for a
high price, and the whole operation afterwards was a set-up," the
public broadcaster said."

Daily Reflections

A NATURAL FAITH

. . . deep down in every man, woman and child, is the fundamental idea
of God. It may be obscured by calamity, by pomp, by worship of other
things, but in some form or other it is there. For faith in a Power
greater than ourselves, and miraculous demonstrations of that power
in human lives, are facts as old as man himself.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 55

I have seen the workings of the unseen God in A.A. rooms around the
country. Miracles of recovery are everywhere in evidence. I now
believe that God is in these rooms and in my heart. Today faith is as
natural to me, a former agnostic, as breathing, eating and sleeping.
The Twelve Steps have helped to change my life in many ways, but none
is
more effective than the acquisition of a Higher Power.

On this day some 231 years ago, our great country gained its
independence

from England and Democracy was born. Each and every year, people
coast to
coast celebrate this great event in various ways including a
magnificent
display of fireworks. As a country, we understand and appreciate the
importance of freedom.
