This is clearly a case that cries for intervention by the ACLU. Being an an
accessory to a death is equivalent to actually killing that person. Catholic
Hospitals should not be placed in that position.

N.Y. Legislation Would Force Abortion on Religious Hospitals
They would have to kill preborn babies or make referrals.
Under legislation sitting in the New York Assembly, religious hospitals and
social service agencies in the state would be required to perform abortions
or refer women to an abortionist.
Hospitals would have to violate their religious policies if the Reproductive
Health and Privacy Protection Act passes.
Dennis Poust, spokesman for the New York State Catholic Conference, said it
would make hospitals accessories to death.
"It's really a violation of religious freedom to force an organization to
engage in an evil act which is against its clear teaching," he said.

But the hospitals would have a choice, don't accept state or federal
money. No court could rule against them then.

They aren't. They can make referrals. So, you're point is moot. If
referring someone who insists on abortion to a medical facility that offers
the procedure is too much for these "guardians of morality" to bear, then
they can get the fuck out of the medical career. And good riddance. Are
they next going to insist on leeches and bleeding to cure diseases?

They should not be placed into a position of actually caring for the
patient? They should not be forced to provide either the medical
services required or requested, or provide referrals to medical
facilities that do? What is the world coming to, requiring hospitals
to actually do the job that people expect them to do?
The only cry to the ACLU comes from defending the patients that come
to these hospitals expecting the hospitals to do their jobs and list
ALL their treatment options. The group YOU want is the antithesis of
the ACLU, the ACLJ. The people that want to remove our freedoms,
liberties, and equality.

Wrong.
'Church officials [...] say they are most troubled by a section that
states that the "the state shall not discriminate against the exercise
of the rights ... in the regulation or provision of benefits,
facilities, services, or information."
'"If they grant us a license, which is a state action, they will be
discriminating," a legal coordinator for the archdiocese, Edward
Mechmann, said.' - http://www.nysun.com/article/71419?page_no=3

Do you think the governor or people of New York State really see it
that way? I don't.

"or refer women"
Do you see that part?
You do also know that there are states that want to pass a law calling for
just the opposite.
Isn't that depriving people of their right to an abortion?
Don't even start with me on religious hospitals and how they trample the
rights of patients and their families.
