Dennis Kucinich: A Peace-Seeking Idealist To The Core

To understand the importance Dennis Kucinich places on spirituality,
scan his generally spare Capitol Hill office: a white cloth from the
Dalai Lama, a bust of Gandhi, and a picture representing “conscious
light” - a gift from Brahma Kumaris nuns.

There’s a Tibetan dragon washbowl and, on his desk, two heavy crucifixes
once worn by Catholic nuns who taught him and who, he says, “saved my life.”

“Obviously, I connect with all religions,” says Representative Kucinich
(D) of Ohio, in the midst of his second presidential campaign. “All
manners of belief and even non-belief come from a common font, and that
is the transcendent power of the human heart…. All those things that
would separate us are based on misunderstandings of our nature.”

They’re somewhat unusual religious views for someone who still considers
himself essentially Roman Catholic. But then, little about Kucinich is
orthodox.

Oh, poor Mitt Romney.. .poor, poor, Mitt Romney-
when will the horrible persecution of Mormons ever end?

Do you seriously think that you can lecture a gay man
about prejudice against Mormons?

The media has been constantly, self-righteously wringing
its hand and patting itself on the back, for getting on its own
high horse and lecturing about how awful it is that anyone
would have prejudice against a Mormon.

They forget- a gay man could not even THINK of being
becoming a credible candidate for President in our lifetimes,
because of a far greater, overwhelming prejudice. That fact
does not even seem to OCCUR to them, because of their
own bigotry and royal indifference.

They constantly fret about prejudice AGAINST Mormons
but will not mention a word about any prejudices OF
Mormons.

Creeping Fascism: History's Lessons

“There are few things as odd as the calm, superior indifference with
which I and those like me watched the beginnings of the Nazi revolution
in Germany, as if from a box at the theater. ... Perhaps the only
comparably odd thing is the way that now, years later....”

These are the words of Sebastian Haffner (pen name for Raimund Pretzel),
who as a young lawyer in Berlin during the 1930s experienced the Nazi
takeover and wrote a first-hand account. His children found the
manuscript when he died in 1999 and published it the following year as
“Geschichte eines Deutschen” (The Story of a German).

The book became an immediate bestseller and has been translated into 20
languages—in English as “Defying Hitler.”

I recently learned from his daughter Sarah, an artist in Berlin, that
today is the 100th anniversary of Haffner’s birth. She had seen an
earlier article in which I quoted her father and e-mailed to ask me to
“write some more about the book and the comparison to Bush’s America.
... This is almost unbelievable.”

Hillary Signals Free Pass for Bush

Hillary Clinton’s campaign is signaling that a second Clinton presidency
will follow the look-to-the-future, don’t-worry-about-accountability
approach toward Republican wrongdoing that marked Bill Clinton’s years
in office.

That was the significance of former President Clinton’s remarkable Dec.
17 comment that his wife’s first act in the White House would be to send
Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush on an around-the-world mission to
repair America’s damaged image.

“The first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President
Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that
America is open for business and cooperation again,” said Bill Clinton,
who has accompanied the senior Bush on international humanitarian
missions over the past several years.
