Dhimmis is a centuries old term for non-Muslims [many of whom were
Christians
or Jews whose lands in the Middle East and North Africa] had been
conquered by
Arab Muslims. They lived in a permanent state of humiliation, their legal
status in every
way inferior to that of Muslims; they were not allowed to marry Muslim
women, to have
Muslim employees, two own land, to ride a horse or camel, or to defend
themselves if
physically attacked by a Muslim. Those accepted this status sought to
survive "by flattering
their oppressors,; those who refused to be dhimmis were killed. The
European establishment's
posture toward European Muslim's today is precisely that of dhimmi, warns
a liberal ex-Muslim.
