Gerald Ford led us out of our national nightmare

With the death of President Gerald Ford, I for one do feel immense sadness of his passing. If some still believe that the Republican Party is the party of Lincoln, then Gerald Ford honored the late President Abraham Lincoln. The late President Lincoln tried to heal a nation after the Civil War as did the late President Ford when the late President Richard Nixon resigned his office.

President Nixon had at least the integrity to resign the office of the President of the United States after a failed war and being the mastermind of the Watergate break in. That is something that the present President should do for the well being of this republic along with the present vice president. If truth be told, President George W. Bush cannot even measure up to the late President Nixon. If truth be told, President Bush cannot measure up to the late President Ford as well. President Ford had great moral clarity which is void in the current presidency.

Instead of getting a nation's pound of flesh after both events, which many believe led to his loss in the 1976 presidential election, the late President Ford decided to pardon President Nixon. When he...
