I think you are looking for something we often do in our office, which
is to compare the scale of a mapped area with another using Google
Earth Map Underlays.
What usually works well for us is using an underlay .png map outline
of the area to compare to, then move it around Google Earth.

Did anyone else notice that whatever the group is that controls the
"model" building code is voting on a series of new proposals. I guess
the ones re high-rises have been withdrawn but there is still one on
the table to require sprinklers in ALL new residential units,
including single family homes. Ugh. Seems like a bit of overkill.
Besides, what would one then do with a rural home that's on a well.

In the name of profit, people can all too often fall by the wayside.

No, but it's interesting, thanks for the link!
Sometimes my mind turns to trying to think how suburban areas could better-
utilize public transportation, such as a system of feeders (trollies, maybe?)
that could go from suburban neighborhoods (with frequent stops so all are
within reasonable walking distance) to central transport areas. Of course,
our *current* infrastructure is going to hell in a handbasket, and new
infrastructure would add to those costs... :(

(No don't go the easy way and assume they are stupid. There may be
other rational explanations for them not doing the obvious thing)
Some argue that people should be riding bikes on the road, period. Not
very clever. Well, since nearly 99%% of people don't ride bikes to
work, there must be some good reason for it. Perhaps PEOPLE ARE AFRAID
to share the roads with our reckless, sometime criminal drivers,
perhaps they are plain stupid, or perhaps they are lazy couch potatoes
who won't even go the supermarket on bikes...
Thus we put this poll so that a solution is found once the revolution
is in place. ;)
Of course, the revolution will not be motorized.
The Poll is being taken here...

Here's an interesting article. A strip mall wants to keep buses out.
They claim safety, liability, etc. But the thought is maybe's its an
attempt to keep out people from the city (i.e. blacks). In reality,
it's probably because people who ride buses in suburban Buffalo don't
buy very much.
