=v= I agree with BIG ONE here. "Accident" might describe a
number of collisions, but it not really an appropriate term to
describe all of them. It emphasizes nonintention, which is only
one aspect of the situation, and in many cases isn't accurate.
=v= I also think making the decision to drive a car in the first
place is an intentionality and that motorists should be held to
a greater degree of accountability for. But even without that
greater degree of accountability, it's still pretty easy to find
incidents for which "accident" is a wildly misleading term.
=v= Note that the term was introduced in this thread to describe
cars that run red lights, which is intentional behavior. Also,
for the recent incident in Seattle, note how the motorist tried
to wheedle about the unintended consequences of his intentional
acts to portray it as an "accident."
