Why Do Liberals Love Hunger?

Why do liberals love hunger?...
It must produce a lot of feel good hallucinations.
In fact, that must be one of their basis for hating the US.
Our food stifles those feel good hallucinations.

Hunger: Where Is The Scorn?
INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY

Posted 3/29/2007

Food Security: There's never a shortage of dictators to hurl abuse at the U.S. for its food policies. But they have no right to do
it. Marxism, not freedom, is the world's foremost creator of hunger.

The blame-America-first crowd often zeroes in on U.S. plenty, calling our lack of want 'excess' and our great food productivity an
ecological evil.

There's been a malevolent new wave of this lately as more news of failed Marxist regimes and the hunger they create comes out.

Cuba's communist dictator Fidel Castro on Thursday denounced the U.S.' production of grain ethanol as 'sinister' and a coming cause
of ecological catastrophe and global starvation. Not only would it affect Cuba, which has rationed food since 1962, but 3 billion
other people, he said.

Not to be outdone, the United Nations denounced the West for North Korea's new famine, laughably claiming the nuclear-armed state
was a victim of bad harvests and a lack of food aid from the stingy West.

Dictatorships that support the US?

That must be a disappointment to the people who shaped boycotts,
blockades and made illegal all sorts of trade and purchasing
activities in relation to Cuba. I am sure they thought their economic
policies, which in many cases entailed the punishment of american
businessmen and women doing business with Cuba, would have some effect
on the country. What foolish conservatives they were.

That is an eminently quotable tidbit. Contemporary Cubans fare less well than
19th Century Cuban slaves.

Unfortunately, no amount of data is going to dislodge the mythical Cuba of
leftist imagination --- the "noble experiment" which failed to produce an
idyllic paradise only because of capitalist cruelty, i.e., the US boycott.

The capitalist West is guilty because it does not feed Cuba and North Korea.
No curiosity at all about why they cannot feed themselves. But of course not
--- demanding that anyone should feed themselves is just another cruel
capitalist pretext for exploitation.

*sigh*.

And Russia? Unalloyed free-market capitalism doesn't have a great
track record either.

Er, which claim is bullshit? That poverty rates have fallen worldwide?

"The economist estimates the world's Gini coefficient fell to 0.63 in 1998
from 0.66 in 1970. He also finds that the fraction of the world's population
below the poverty line fell from 41 percent in 1970 to 19 percent in 1998."

http://www.ncpa.org/iss/int/2002/pd061102f.html

"Since 1990 [to 2005] extreme poverty in developing countries has fallen
from 28 percent to 21 percent."

http://devdata.worldbank.org/wdi2005/Section1_1_1.htm

"The share of the world's people living in extreme poverty is slowly but
steadily declining, from 29%% in 1990 to 23%% in 1999."
