Our seed corn has been already eaten, now it is time to search for something
else if we want to survive.
We already got global warming and we do nothing to at least curb it.
Our kids are already doomed to live into a harsher world because of all the
CO2 we already put into the atmosphere.
Even if we open some fields in Alaska or elsewhere, and we get lot of oil
from there, we must tax it like hell. If we are idiots enough not to tax
the oil like Europeans do, we are going to see again SUV and Hummers
driving only 10 miles per gallon. More environment destruction, and in the
end even that extra oil will vanish without a trace.
The oil is cheap because it is "subsidized" from the future by our kids.
Your grandkids who will die due to an extreme weather events amplified by
global warming will pay with their life for your "cheap" oil and coal.
Your grandkids who will die by starvation because of the drought and floods
and ocean rising actually subsidize the price you pay at the pump.
Your grandkids who will die in Pennsylvania by a tropical disease brought
there by the global warming do pay for your SUV mileage. And even price of
the beach house they lost to the rising ocean, is actually a subsidy for
your gas.
But it is an indirect subsidy which does not appear in any corporate or
personal balance sheet.
This is the problem with the pathetic corporatism we currently have. It is
driven EXCLUSIVELY by the short-term bottom line with complete disregard to
the destruction and damages they will do on the long term. If all these
costs would be accounted for, you will see that oil and coal are the most
expensive forms of energy one can use. But because we coerce our kids to
pay these expenses we have the appearance that the gas is a cheap energy.
Practically, we are selling our kids to a slaughterhouse for .... cheap gas.

Because they care.

The world of the future will be fully democratic or will not be at all.

P.S.:
When I say "democratic", I use the word democratic coming from democracy not
from Democratic party. I am not connected in any way with Democratic party
and if they fail to do as promised and cut corporate corruption I have no
problem to turn on them and blog against them too.
