why the dogs are happy

this is only conjecture
and postulation on my part
you understand

based mostly on casual observations
and occasional reflection
not real science
in the traditional sense

the dogs
of cromwell county
where i grew up
and where my cousin lives
to this very day
are a very happy lot

and this is my theory

they're happy because
first of all
they are just dogs
and they know no better

If some dogs have actually evolved human style emotions simply by being
artificially selected_for maybe they have this mood that represents
human contentment, they may display and experience this in a more
sustained way than even their designers can?

- : African Wild Dog Society.

African wild dogs, unlike lions, do not attack each other. The dominant
male or dominant female (each sex has its own hierarchy), lets his or
her superiority be known by posture and tail position. Submission is
quite elaborate and ritualistic. Members of this species seem to like
being 'the underdog'-they literally burrow beneath each other, with the
whole group sometimes forming a heap. When a domestic dog licks you,
this is a similar form of ritual submission, derived from the dog's
direct ancestor, the wolf.

As hunters, African wild dogs are very successful. The pack leader
singles out a zebra or gazelle and chases it, while the others follow
in a widely dispersed line, to catch the prey even if it zig-zags...

You might as well ask what humans can learn from humans....

Relace the word dogs with children .....

Why Children are happy .... and then contemplate why a happy child becomes
an unhappy adult, often determined to act in ways that make happy children
grow up as unhappy adults.

Other times they are miserable. My wife babysits our granddaughter so
our daughter can work fulltime. It's like second parenthood to us.

The child (1 year old to the day) is quite good most of the time but
she can get very cranky at times. If she has a load in her diaper she
is the unhappiest person on Earth. The other day she pitched a fit
because the bottle she was drinking from had too large an opening and
the liquid spilled on her.

If your children were happy all the time, then they are not human. Not
even dogs are happy all the time.

Talking about children I had my sister in law round to dinner once with her
son (my nephew) and after the meal and within the little boy's earshot - she
then told me how she regretted having him and how she wished he had never
been born! I mean the poor little boy - how on earth would that make him
feel?

There is a story the Borg tell me about dogs.
Dogs in general are a Collective and they kind of understand each other and
each other's thoughts.
One of their main questions or thoughts is
"One I have been castrated - will I ever feel pleasure again?"
Well one day the Borg Queen came along and the dogs thought they would ask
their question of the Borg Queen.
They sent along a dog representative and instead of bowing graciously and
asking politely, the dog got on his hind legs and started having sex with
The Borg Queen and this was his way of asking.
Dogs have since been banned from The Borg Kingdom until they learn some
manners!
"There is a way to ask" The Borg try and explain to dogs.

The same really applies to horses. They love to run wild and be free.
It is awful to see a beautiful stallion locked up in a stable.
The door is opened and he is led to a mare where he has sex with her and
then he is led back to his stable and locked up.
You can never really tame a horse. You can break his spirit though

Same for cattle too really.
They produce a little calf and the calf is taken away so that they do not
take too much of their Mum's milk.
It is awful to see the look in the little calf's eyes when he is put in a
dark stable and given a bucket instead of the softness and love of his Mum.
His Mum feels the loss.
You wonder if in the course of evolution, that if man ever dies out that
cattle will produce young and look at them and not even know who or what
they are.
They will not know what Motherhood is.
