Some woman or other equated dog fights to
"crimes against humanity" in a Washington Post
editorial. And I say:
THESE ARE NOT CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY
(they are crimes against dogadity at best). It
cheapens humanity when morons like the woman
above drags down the uniqueness of "humanity"
to the level of one or other of the lower beasts.
These beasts are unconscious of their destiny
and there is nothing outside of pure physical pain
they can anguish over... like your child anguishes
over your treatment of him/her. Billions of chickens
are slaughtered every day for our dinner in a hell
of a lot more horrific ways than those of a dog fight.
And all over Asia dogs are raised and slaughtered for
food exactly like we slaughter chickens, ducks, et al.

My humanity is a reference to how I react to the world around me. Do
I act like an animal or to I display human traits like kindness,
restraint, wisdom, honor, compassion. While I believe dogs are not
human and are not on the same level as humans, I don't think they
should be treated with complete disregard. Certainly they should not
be treated in a way so as to cause unwarranted and needless pain and
suffering for sport and profit.
However, all of that is really not the issue. Dog fighting and the
other complaints filed against MV are against the law. Breaking those
laws have certain consequences. If you don't like the law, try to
change it changed (that is why we have a political process). MV has
admitted that he broke those laws and as such is considered guilty and
must face the consequences...

Then we should regulate dog fighting like we do boxing or football?
This way he wouldn't have broken the law. Or should we revise the law
to allow dog fighting but let everyone off till then who broke the
existing laws?
Maybe they should make laws against attacking stars and making big
deal out of a common crime committed regularly. Why havn't we heard
about the last group of offenders? They were not big stars that the
lynch mob can gather around for stonin'
