There was a kid in my 4th grade Sunday School class who used to say that.
The Sunday School teacher would always kick his poor raggy hiney out for it,
too. She'd say, "Dennis! You can pick up your Bible now and leave. There's
the door." --and we'd get such a big kick out of it, even if you couldn't
help feeling sorry for somebody going out the door and on through life like
that, with such a sad, miserable and threadbare conception of the
"almighty."
Banish disease, ferth'crissake? Anybody, even a Kater Moggin could banish
disease, if he'd only wash his hands after taking a leak, or wear a warm
coat when he goes outside, something so 'almighty' as that.

Depends on the god. The NT describes Abba's prophet Jesus
performing many healings. Example:
Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching
in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the
kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease
among the people.
Matthew 9:35
By contrast, the Lord and Creator in _Job_ willingly gives
Satan his divine go-ahead to afflict the blameless and
righteous Mr. Job with a terrible sickness. Different attitude.
> But, the nature of the Almighty is this, that he has no 'hand' to wave.
False regarding the Almighty in _Job_, who asks "Hast thou
an arm like God?" Job 40:9. In fact Yahweh is often
anthropomorphized in the Hebrew scriptures, another contrast to
the NT deity.

Not according to you. You said, "The god is not concerned
with...ridding the world of disease." But gods can be very
different, after all. The evil-doing Creator in _Job_ afflicts
a blameless, righteous man with a terrible disease, the
opposite of banishing sickness; judging by the Gospels, the God
that Jesus preaches is the opposite of Yahweh, since Jesus
goes around "healing every sickness and every disease among the
people." Matthew 9:35.
> Quite right
Not according to you. You denied the Almighty can wave on
grounds he has nothing like hands. But the Bible says
differently e.g. in Job 40:9 ("Hast thou an arm like God?") and
other anthropomorphizing verses.

But nothing. "The god is not concerned with...ridding the
world of disease" is true of the plague-god Yahweh, false
respecting Abba, judging by Jesus' habit of performing healings
in the NT.
The claim "the nature of the Almighty is this, that he has
no 'hand' to wave" is contradicted by the various passages
where Yahweh is anthropomorphized, assigned arms, hands, and so
on.
> similitude and a figure of speech
So Mac now admits to a similarity between the Almighty and
material things despite his earlier notion that there's
nothing in common between the two, but he still doesn't realize
anthropomorphic depictions of Yahweh aren't always merely
figures of speech. For example, Genesis 18 describes Yahweh as
one of three men who visit Abraham. He invites them inside
and offers a meal. They accept, eating Abe's food and drinking
his drink. Gen. 18:1-8.

Oh come on - hardly a world saver - i'd call him an evil bastard - why not
cure all the diseases - why just around 20 or 30? If he is capable of curing
all disease and he doesnt - not very good of him in this case is it?
Lets see - you think the OT god evil for causing boils
but JC is OK as he cures 20-30 people in a disease ridden world of millions
of suffering people. Thou shalt not kill - but one doesnt have to strive to
save lives when one can?

Exactly. Rather than curing disease, Yahweh does just the
opposite, giving Satan his divine go-ahead to harm Job, a
blameless, upright man, in "bone and flesh," contrary to claims
for the Creator's justice and goodness.
If Jesus has the same powers, as orthodoxy claims, and the
Christian scriptures sometimes agree, then he's open to
exactly the same kind of criticism. If he's less powerful then
not so.

For it might well be that disease is a function of creation -
dissemination... that might be why - even the innocent suffer..

In _Job_ a blameless and righteous man suffers because the
Creator and Satan torment him, contrary to claims for the
Creator's justice and goodness. Also doesn't reflect very well
on the Creation.
