"ATLANTA ā For the first time, U.S. life expectancy has surpassed 78
years, the government reported Wednesday.
The increase is due mainly to falling mortality rates in almost all
the leading causes of death, federal health officials said. The
average life expectancy for babies born in 2006 was about four months
greater than for children born in 2005.
However, the United States continues to lag behind about 30 other
countries in estimated life span, according to World Health
Organization data.
Japan is No. 1 on the list, with a life expectancy of 83 for children
born in 2006. Switzerland and Australia were also near the top of the
list.
"The international comparisons are not that appealing, but we may be
in the process of catching up," said Samuel Preston, a University of
Pennsylvania demographer. He is co-chair of a National Research
Council panel looking at why America's life expectancy is lower than
other nations'.

first off, this isn't a support group. this is a brutal place. you
should seek medical advice from licensed professionals.
> help me to see what you all see,
i see that in your describing life as "rot & decay" you feel
emotionally unhappy and would like to feel differently. i shared with
you techniques that have been proven to make people feel happy.
alternatively i think lexapro is widely prescribed as an anti-
depressant in the elderly if you'd prefer to take the cheap quick fix
approach. xanax is also widely prescribed for anxiety.
philosophically the situation does seem to suck since the hubris is a
lying crock of shit.
HTHelps.
ps - i think you're decent "*honest*" guy.

even walking is good. i dont personally like running because i believe
it smashes the legs up. bicycling is good.
swimming is the best.

And I go to the gym 3 times a week (although lately, I must admit to
being slack; but I have an excuse). So my muscle tone is good; I do an
hour on a stair climber, so my heart is strong - and yet that isn't
enough. At 60 (in August) I'm seeing every faculty I possess wane and
wither before my very eyes (oh, even my eyes are going bad). My
internal organs no longer function as they did; my recovery time is
measured in months, not days; Iām constantly tired (except right after
exercising, that gets the blood going!!).

a doco shown here this week, made by Washington Post dude.
Very "enlightening" about how entrenched accepted beliefs control the way
how things get done from one nation to another .... and the absolute
possibility that such blockages can and are overcome. Switzerland and taiwan
being 2 excellent examples of that.
What blocks improvement in US health care imho is severe and somewhat
extreme Cultural Beliefs about socialism vs capitalism. Of course, if one
has been baptised in the Holy Waters of Capitalism and Profiteering then
it's unlikely they would be seen as "extreme", as everything is relative, is
it not?
The most important question imho is "what actually works on a realistic and
practical level?"
47 million in the richest nation on earth unable to obtain basic health care
to me suggest a health care system that does not work.
Two things stood out during the doco to me.

Slight correction in your attempt at psychoanalysis of my **alleged**
condition and desires:
i see that in your describing life as "rot & decay" you feel
emotionally unhappy and would like to feel differently.
I **was** very happy for most of my young adulthood (whether from
recreational chemical aids or not). The middle years were filled with
monetary success (without really trying) and I am still a āgym
ratā...
