This demands a dedicated word, not "Holocaust" but something like
that.

"Disaster" and "calamity" and "energy crisis" just won't do.

I don't believe any of these theories about the oil
companies fixing prices this high. The oil companies
raise prices as high as they possibly can anyway.
It is competition and relative scarcity that set how
high they can set them. The problem with these
theories is that they fail to explain why the oil
companies would have allowed the price of oil
between the early eighties and the late nineties
to fall (when corrected for inflation). I recall driving
past an gas station in 1999 with a sign that said
gas war that had 99 cent per gallon gas. Ha.

Anyway, has anybody researched what percentage
of the oil companies are owned by 401Ks and
such? How much of the oil companies are owned
by regular Americans, and how does it help them
to raise taxes on themselves to make someone
suffer for raising prices?
