others

A totally symbolic ritual conducted at a different University once a
fortnight that begins as 40 female PhD candidates march 2 abreast
(that's 4 deep) onto the campus and then form a square around an area
previously marked in white paint with the words 'Public Sphere';
whereupon two blindfolded dwarves from the Black Forest . . . one with
a sign around his neck reading 'Habermas', the other 'Derrida' . . .
enter the square armed with leather bound volumes, each containing a
random work of Critical Theory. Then, as Habermas and Derrida start to
swing wildly at one another's noggins for 15 three-minute rounds, a
full professor, standing just outside the perimeter of the Public
Sphere, on an apple crate, extemporizes on the larger meaning of this
spectacle.

Hey, hey. Don't let's overinterpret here, Dr. Freud. I took the bait
*despite* the homoerotic come-hither of Our Blobbers, not because of
it.

Any opportunity to riff on a favorite subject, be it a 'bete-noir' or
'bete-blanc', is an opportunity I will invariably sieze.
